Hello,

I believe that somebody did post a brief news article in alt.true-crime,
concerning the Florida triple murder trial of Thomas Overton, but I am pleased
to provide this update nevertheless, and to make this post to my mailing List
as well, since Thomas JUST managed to reach the magic number of three victims,
when the 8 months pregnant fetus that victim Susan MacIvor was carrying when
she was slaughtered, was ruled to be a human being/murder victim. Very
interesting to note how your DISEASED society manages to justify declaring SOME
fetuses to be "human murder victims", when it wants to demonize a multiple
murderer, while at the same time legalizing the genocidal mass murder of many
thousands of fetuses each and every year, via the legal murder act of abortion.

Anyway, we learn below that after being convicted of three counts of first
degree murder a few days ago, the jury did indeed recommend the death penalty
for Thomas. He STRANGLED to death both Susan and her hubby Michael, WAY back in
1991. Thomas made a VERY clean getaway, and enjoyed FIVE years of freedom, not
getting arrested & charged with the triple murder until 1996, when a DNA match
to his SEMEN, which was found at the crime scene, was made. Hey, all you
sexually fertile killers: You really should CLEAN UP your murder scenes a
little bit better, why not just grab a sponge or paper towels and clean up that
sperm, flush it down the toilet. Especially with the recent advances in
DNA/forensic science, it really is important for anyone who wants to get away
with murder to clean up those crime scenes.

Thomas is still only 43 years old, and he has been in VERY good spirits
throughout the trial. He asked his lawyers to not put forth any defense to the
jury, and during Thursday's penalty phase, he REPEATEDLY smiled and laughed
before, during and after the jury's return with its sentencing recommendation
of death! Very nice to see a triple murderer who is at peace with himself,
comfortable with his accomplishments, and in a HAPPY, carefree mood. When asked
by the judge whether he was SURE that he didn't want to present any mitigating
facts to the jury, to try and pursuade them to go with a Life prison term,
rather then a legal murder sentence, Thomas replied to the judge: "``Yes sir,
there won't be no pleading." Bad grammer, Thomas. But I admire your refusal to
PROSTITUTE yourself to the jury, with false remorse, very much indeed.

Thomas also engaged in STARING contests with members of the victims family.
He truly seems to be a STONE COLD killer. But interestingly, there is no
suggestion made that he might have killed OTHER people in the past. Apparently,
cops believe he only engaged in this one deadly rampage, back in 1991, at the
age of 35 or so, and has NOT killed anyone else beyond these 3 victims. It's
also interesting to me that Thomas chose to STRANGLE both the man and the
woman. He took at least three whole minutes to strangle the hubby, and even
LONGER to strangle wife Susan. She was also raped.

To view a VERY cool photo of Thomas, in court on Thursday, listening to the
jury hand down it's death penalty recommendation, with a SLIGHT but undeniable
SMILE on his face, simply point your web browser to:

Contrary to what you might think, Thomas looks like a clean-cut, middle-aged
family man. He could be a stockbroker or accountant, so mild-mannered is his
facial appearance.

Take care, JOE

Jury recommends death penalty in slayings of couple, unborn

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - Three days after convicting Thomas Overton of
first-degree murder in the slayings of a Tavernier couple and their unborn
child, the same jury on Thursday recommended he get the death penalty.

The jury took just over an hour to reach its 8-4 vote to recommend that
Overton, 43, die in Florida's electric chair, rather than spend the rest of his
life in prison.

``It's still too good of an ending for him,'' said Sharon MacIvor, whose
brother and sister-in-law were slain nearly eight years ago. ``He should suffer
the same long miserable death that he gave to my sister-in-law, and the
suffering that he caused my brother and the baby. That's what he deserves.''

Overton, who asked that his attorneys mount no defense and call no witnesses in
his favor during Thursday's penalty phase hearing, smiled and laughed before,
during and after the jury's return with its sentencing recommendation.

``Yes sir, there won't be no pleading,'' Overton replied when asked by Circuit
Judge Mark Jones if he really intended to have no defense at the hearing.

The judge, who under Florida law is not bound by the jury's sentencing
recommendation, then set Overton's sentencing for Feb. 22.

Overton at Thursday's hearing also stared down family members of Michael and
Susan ``Missy'' MacIvor, who were strangled in their home in the Upper Keys the
night of Aug. 22, 1991. Mrs. MacIvor, who was eight months pregnant, also was
raped.

``It was difficult for me to stay in my seat and not lunge after him myself,''
Sharon MacIvor said. ``It would be worth a contempt of court (charge) for me.''

Earlier, before the jury went to deliberate its recommendation, survivors of
the victims took the witness stand to tearfully express their grief.

Michael MacIvor's mother, Celeste MacIvor, spoke of not being able to protect
her son, one of her four children.

``I had four very precious jewels during my lifetime: Sharon, Jimmy, Michael
and Tim. I cherished and protected them with my life.''

In Monday's closing arguments, Chief Assistant State Attorney Jon Ellsworth
said Overton took at least three minutes to strangle MacIvor and even longer to
kill his wife. That, the prosecutor said, proved there had been premeditation.

Police were stumped by the case for years. They arrested Overton only in 1996,
once they matched his DNA with semen found at the crime scene.

Overton's defense attorneys argued the evidence was later planted at the crime
scene. Overton also said he was working at an Amoco gas station the night of
the slayings.

But the gas station's time cards from that period were later destroyed.

Death recommended in murder of Keys couple

In Key West, Thursday was an emotional day in court as a jury handed down a
death sentence. The same jury that convicted Thomas Overton of killing a
Tavernier man and his pregnant wife now says he should die for his crime.

Overton would be only the second Keys resident to die in Florida’s
electric chair, if the sentence is carried out. But in court, he did not seem
worried about it and even ordered his lawyers not to fight it.

One by one, the victim’s kin came to the stand, eager to persuade jurors
Overton should die for his crimes. To persuade, they described the victims,
Mike and Missy MacIvor.

Missy, said her mother, was a child who always shared, who always played
the mommy or the teacher and who was about to become a mother for real when she
was murdered.

“She was always considerate of others and put their feelings before her
own,” Connie Imel said.

Missy’s sister, Marsha, gave the most emotional testimony of all: “There
really are no adequate words to describe how fortunate I feel to have been her
sister.”

Michael MacIvor’s family talked of his “open and fair” outlook, his sense
of humor and his joy at his impending fatherhood. But six weeks before
parenthood, the couple was strangled in their Tavernier home.

Jurors who had seen brutal video of the crime scene were convinced, by DNA
evidence and testimony from Overton acquaintances, that he committed the
murders. But jurors who convicted Overton on Monday heard no pleas of mercy on
his behalf on Thursday. It was his own idea.

“I don’t want any objections to the sentencing phase at all,” Overton said.

Overton’s lawyers had argued throughout the trial that their client had
been framed. Yet, Overton showed no emotion when he was convicted of killing
Missy and Mike MacIvor.

“He was emotionless...we watched him as the verdicts were being read,” said
the victim’s brother, Tim MacIvor. “I feel anger, of course. He’s not human. He
has no soul.”

The defense had claimed that Overton’s semen found on linens at the murder
scene had been planted there. However, prosecutors called a couple of witnesses
who said Overton had told them about stalking a couple who lived on an airstrip
in the Keys, climbing a ladder and entering a balcony door, then strangling the
two occupants.

The judge has scheduled official sentencing for February 22nd.

I got as far as the moron comparing an 8month old, who would have survived outside the womb, that was murdered by an intruder(who first killed the father and then raped the mother) to the time limit thats medically recommended to abort fetuses if the mother(& father at times) decide that they do not want to go thru with the pregnancy and I realised that the author was clearly a moron so no point in reading on. What a ridiculous comparison. People like you actually make abortions seem like a viable option. (Think about it, youll figure it out... derp)
