Boy Made 911 Call After Mother, Grandmother Shot To Death
Last Update: 9/12 4:29 pm

RINEYVILLE, Ky. (AP) - According to a 911 call released today, three
young children were left in a central Kentucky home after their mother and
another woman were shot to death by an intruder.

The 911 call was made yesterday by one of the victim's children. The
boy said a man with a gun killed his mother Monday night in their Rineyville
home about 35 miles south of Louisville.

State police are searching for suspects. No one has been charged in
the shooting deaths of 31-year-old Tracy Burke and her former mother-in-law,
53-year-old Karen Comer.

All three children were found unharmed and were placed in the care of
a crisis intervention team.

911 call released at link above:

A heartbreaking 911 call from a 9-year-old Hardin County boy whose mother
and grandmother had been shot and killed has been released.

In the call the boy, his voice trembling, told police that someone he didn't
know had killed Tracy Burke, 31, and Karen Comer, 53, the night before, and
that he had been too afraid to call until that point.

"Somebody broke into our house last night and I don't know who it was, but
they killed everybody here, except for my sister and my brother and me," the
boy told a police dispatcher during the 911 call. "There was a guy with a
pistol or some kind of gun and he came in and shot my mother and my
grandma."

Police believe the shootings, which occurred at a home in Rineyville,
happened at least 12 hours before the boy's 911 call.

Aside from the 9-year-old, there were also a five-year-old boy and female
toddler in the home at the time of the shooting. Police say none of the
three children were hurt.

The children, who are the children of two different men, both of whom are in
the military, were placed in the care of a crisis intervention team.

Police say there was no sign of forced entry in the home, and that so far
they have no suspects.

Fort Campbell soldier's children in home during double homicide
Associated Press

The children of a Fort Campbell soldier were left inside a home in central
Kentucky after their mother and grandmother were shot to death, according to
a 911 call released today.

The 911 call was made by one of the three children who were in the home, who
said a man with a gun killed his mother Monday night in Rineyville, about 35
miles south of Louisville.

State police continued to search for suspects today. No one has been charged
in the shooting deaths of Tracy D. Burke, 31, and her former mother-in-law,
Karen D. Comer, 53.

Burke's 9-year-old son called police on Tuesday to say that his mother and
grandmother had been killed the night before. The recording of the call was
released today.

"Somebody broke into our house last night and I don't know who it was, but
they killed everybody here, except for my sister and my brother and me," the
boy told a police dispatcher during the 911 call. "There was a guy with a
pistol or some kind of gun and he came in and shot my mother and my
grandma."

Police said the women had been dead overnight.

All three children were found unharmed and were placed in the care of a
crisis intervention team.

The father of the oldest child is Comer's son, who is stationed at Fort
Lewis, Wash., state Trooper Steve Pavey said. The father of the two younger
children is stationed at Fort Campbell, Pavey said.

Pavey said Comer's husband, Kurt Comer, who also lived at the house, was not
considered a suspect. A truck driver, Comer was informed of the killings
while he was on the road and arrived at the home Tuesday afternoon.

The results of an autopsy had not been released today.

I heard this story and the 911 tapes this morning and the whole thing is
just heart breaking. I did have to chuckle a little at the point in the
boy's narrative when he tells the operator that one of the dogs was killed
too. But then his voice perks up just a bit and adds "but we still have 3
left!" Bless his heart.

I was sick all day thinking about this case and the little girl in Texas. I
wish women would be more careful about the kind of men they bring into their
homes. ( I am referring to the Texas case.)

The Texas case, where the little girl was hung in the garage....by the
woman's married-to-someone-else live-in honey? She should be prosecuted
for something. Stupidity. Alienation of affection (but who'd want him
back)? I'm sick of stupid women glomming onto losers, and bringing them
home to their children.

The poor little boy on the 911 call. SOMEone need to fix that system, so
that when someone calls 911, they aren't forwarded to another agency.

They interviewed the first 911 operator on the news this morning and asked
her why in the world that little boy had to tell that grisly story two
times. Why couldn't one operator handle the whole matter, or at the least
narrate the story to the police dispatcher instead of making the boy do it
all over again. She have some lame reason about having to dispatch to the
specific agency. Not really her fault and she should not bear the blame for
a broken system. Sounds like some updating in their 911 system is needed.
