A 13-YEAR-OLD boy was last night charged with the kidnapping and murder of a
three-year-old girl whose body was found dumped on a vacant block of land on
the central coast.

The boy is expected to appear in Wyong Children's Court later today.

The body of Courtney Morley-Clarke was discovered by police in long grass just
300m from her Northwind Avenue home at Point Clare, shortly before 11am
yesterday.

Courtney had been last seen alive by her parents Tamara and Lawrence
Morley-Clarke asleep in her bed at 1am on Monday. But when the family awoke
about 7am, Courtney was missing.

Her disappearance sparked an intense search of the Point Clare area including
the nearby Brisbane Water National Park by police and SES.

Police seized a knife, believed to be the murder weapon and officers also
discoverd a blood-stained rock nearby, police sources said. The body of
Courtney was later located at 10.47am.

Last night the boy was questioned by police in the presence of an adult.

The teenager is understood to have lived on the central coast with his family
for some time.

Courtney's parents explained to police the toddler had wandered from home once
before.

The blonde-haired, blue-eyed toddler was clothed only in her nappy when found.
Her night dress was lying in the grass nearby.

Detectives are refusing to reveal the circumstances surrounding her murder.

They have released no details about the cause of death awaiting the results of
a post mortem to be held in Sydney today.

Such a sad story! Just finished reading and was not surprised to read
that the 13 year old boy was a loner with no friends - in the habit
of hanging out with younger kids. I guess now hell probably receive
the help he needs.
Shame it wasnt available before this tragedy occurred, even though
many seemed to be aware that the boy had problems.

Yes but I'm also wondering what this crime will blamed on?? Which tv show
glorifies taking a baby out and stabbing her.
Something is seriously wrong with our kids today.

It is a very sad story. I hope he gets help. It's a good thing
it didn't happen in the U.S.--he'd be tried as an adult and thrown
into an adult prison.

Kind regards,
Nancy

Yes I know what you mean Nancy - Ive often thought of that fact!
IMO we are fortunate down here. NO big problems with guns (the
occasional one here and there that makes the headlines and we all go
OMGD) etc, we have humane laws, adequate child protection etc. Even
then there is always the rare case such as this one above It was also
revealed that the boy was a ward of the state until recently. That
figures!
