All this talk about the beau must mean the cops have come up dry with the other
suspects. Now we learn that the boyfriend lived witin walking distance of the
pond from which she vanished. Hmmmmm. (that's my imitation of gb) From the
Boston Herald:

Police comb woods for sign of Bish
by Doug Hanchett
Friday, July 28, 2000
WARREN - State Police descended upon the rugged woods of Warren yesterday,
spending the afternoon looking for any sign of missing 16-year-old Molly Ann
Bish one month after she vanished from her lifeguard post at Comins Pond.
Save for some animal bones and discarded clothing investigators say are
irrelevant, the search - which included the area near Bish's boyfriend's home -
again came up empty.
``I was really hoping for something today, said Molly's mother, Magdalen Bish.
``At this point in time, when you get to four weeks, there's a loss, there's an
emptiness . . . the grieving is beginning.''
Worcester County District Attorney John J. Conte, however, sounded optimistic.
``Quite honestly, we feel we are making some very, very strong advances in this
investigation,'' he said, adding that the original list of three or four strong
suspects has been ``narrowed somewhat.''
The search focused on 400 acres between Southbridge Road and Bemis Road.
The area is about a quarter-mile from the beach where Bish was working for the
summer when she disappeared the morning of June 27. It's also behind the home
of Bish's boyfriend, Steve Lukas, who one police source said is a suspect in
the disappearance.
Lukas - who family members in Warren say recently moved to Connecticut to stay
with his father - was sporting a fat lip the day after Bish vanished, and
sources say he has given conflicting statements in his numerous interviews with
police.
Lukas had told a local television station that he hurt his lip when he bumped
into his bedroom door.
Conte said the decision to comb through the tangled forest near his home -
parts of which were searched in the days immediately following Bish's
disappearance - was based on new leads investigators had gathered.
Meanwhile, the Bish family is preparing a party for Molly's friends to
celebrate her 17th birthday on Aug. 2. And while they would love to have her
home safely for the occasion, they acknowledged yesterday that their hope is
flickering.
``We wish there could be a happy outcome, but a month has passed and we really
have to be open and aware that a bad thing has (probably) happened,'' said
Magdalen Bish.

So, the boyfriend is apparently a suspect, and has given conflicting
statements. While these things sometimes end up being bogus comments against
someone innocent, this is starting to add up to me as sounding pretty daming
for the boyfriend. Add in the fat lip, and the fact that we all know it's the
"usual" thing that it's someone the victim knows, and we have ourselves another
interesting story, do we not?

NOT saying moving out of town is any proof of anything, since there is always
that thing where you need to escape the media or rotten stares of the town
folk... but, hmmm.

And what's the deal with the BD party? This town sure does a lot of getting
together, vigils and all when dealing with bad stuff. Maybe that's just their
coping thing, but it's the most I can remember in a missing person's case.
(E.g., I don't recall dozens of vigils or gatherings for the Sund Pelasso (sp?)
women...)

WHERE is the body?

hate to claim an I TOLD YOU SO, but I was suspicious when the original story
came out and it was only the BF's say so about the mysterious stranger
hanging around the pool.

There has been a case of a 10 year old being kidnapped from
a pond in Leominster last night, sexually assaulted then
dropped in a dumpster in a town not far from Warren (where
the Bish girl is missing from). The victim is recovering in
a local hospital after giving police a description of the
man who assaulted her...20's- heavyset brown hair...driving
a red pickup. Local media claims there are ties to the Bish
case. No comment from the Worcester DA. State police have a
statewide manhunt going on. ---Tribe

So do you think premeditated or not? Sounds like they had an argument.

>WHERE is the body?

Looking at Mapquest, there are a few rivers and lakes nearby, including a lake
in nearby West Brookfield, and a large reservoir to the northwest. He'd need
to drive the body there.

Have they swabbed his car for blood yet?

Notice the boyfriend does not exhibit even a show of solidarity with the family
as they wait this thing out. And no assurance about him has been uttered by the
family now the investigation is beginning to focus more closely on him.

Hmmmmm. (that's my imitation of Maggie imitating gb)

Just to add to the last post...there was an arrest of a 16 year old boy in the
case of this assaulted 11 year old. Not many details, other than the fact that all
ties to the Molly Bish case seem to have been severed.---Tribe
