He's keeping up that family tradition of mental illness.

BREA, Calif. (AP) - Brea police say the grandson of "Hillside
Strangler" Angelo Buono Junior shot and wounded his grandmother before
killing himself.

Sergeant Darrin Devereux says 20-year-old Christopher Buono was found
dead yesterday inside an Orange County furniture store where his
grandmother, Mary Castillo, worked.

Police say the 67-year-old Castillo had gunshot wounds to her head and
chest. She's hospitalized in stable condition.

Castillo was once married to Angelo Buono, one of two men whose
gruesome killings of girls and women in the 1970s terrorized Los
Angeles.

The killings were known as the "Hillside Strangler" slayings because
the victims' bodies were dumped on hillsides around the city.

The motive of the shooting is under investigation.

Mental illness? I never thought Buono was *mentally ill*. He was simply a
cruel asshole, without any conscience or empathy.

Wonder what Bianchi's kid is up to?

Neighbors didn't know Buono's background
Nearby residents didn't know the Fullerton man who shot his grandmother was
the grandson of "Hillside Strangler."
By RACHANEE SRISAVASDI
The Orange County Register
Police continue to investigate today the suicide of the grandson of a serial
killer who shot his grandmother before taking his own life.

Christopher Buono, 20, shot his grandmother Mary Castillo, 67, twice before
taking his own life in an office in the 3900 block of Prospect Avenue in
Yorba Linda Thursday.

Police later said the man was the grandson of Angelo Buono Jr., who was
convicted along with his cousin of torturing and slaying nine women in Los
Angeles during the 1970s.

Buono shot Castillo in the storage space of Yorba Linda Patio and Hearth,
which was owned by Buono's father, Lt. Jack Conklin said.

Today, police said Castillo remains in stable condition at an undisclosed
hospital. The motive is still unknown.

Buono lived with his grandmother -- the ex-wife of Angelo Buono Jr. -- in
Fullerton.

He moved into his grandmother's house in the 300 block of North Harrington
Drive about a year ago, neighbor Shirley Wentworth said.

"I don't understand why he did what he did,'' said Wentworth, who is close
friends with Castillo.

The grandmother lived with a few of her children, the neighbor said. She was
always helpful and chatty to neighbors, she added.

Castillo was a former wife of Angelo Buono, Castillo divorced Buono before
he became a killer, Wentworth added.

"She had nothing to do with (what Angelo Buono) did, she concentrated on
raising her children." Wentworth said.

Neighbors said news crews had knocked on their doors several times to talk
about the family's connection to the serial killer. Two neighbors, who
declined to be identified, said they were shocked to hear about Mary's
ex-husband.

Wentworth said she knew of Castillo's past, but declined to say anything
further.

"People should leave her alone, or care about her because she's Mary, not
because she used to be married to that man."

Family members could not immediately be reached for comment.

LOL, true, but some do consider that a mental illness, at the least a
severe anti-social personality disorder.

Oh, not the kind that makes you not responsible for your actions, just
the kind that comforts the masses that the killer is somehow different
from "normal" folks.

A good reporter would do a story on that, in the wake of this shooting.
But given the state of pared-down news rooms today, I woujldn't hold
my breath.

Y'all are nuts. Nobody is saying any media attention has been focused
on the Hillside Stranglers' children or grandchildren. Only that
perhaps some type of mental illness that is inheritable runs through
Buono and his grandson. Totally different.

So, you're nuts.

That was Ken Bianchi that was the proven faker. Personally, I don't think
either one of 'em was anything more than evil men who enjoyed torturing
women for sport.

Er, isn't the fact that someone enjoys torturing living creatures (much
less fellow humans) for sport ipso facto proof they are mentally ill?
Not delusional or otherwise not responsible - they're still evil
motherfuckers. But they're sick evil motherfuckers. Tells me we
should study them, look for ways to recognize such things earlier and
help us develop treatment. Even while serving a LWOP sentence, we
should be trying to treat their mental illness.

Oh, we might not get very far. Not with this crop, perhaps not for
several generations. But even if it takes a hundred years - well, I'm
pretty sure in a hundred years there will still be sick, evil
motherfuckers to deal with. We're killers, its our nature, and with
some the wiring upstairs lacks certain inhibitory features (like, say,
impulse control, or empathy, or common sense). Got to keep practicing
on and studying these perps, eventually we'll figure out what we're
doing. And what they're doing.

The psychiatric profession does not consider personality disorders to
be mental illness.

>Not delusional or otherwise not responsible - they're still evil
>motherfuckers.

People can have delusions and not be mentally ill, and some delusions
can be willfully self-created. Take, for example, Michael Jackson.
The "King of Pop" apparently believed that everyone would believe him
if he said he simply "loved" adolescent white boys. Few did. That's
a delusion, but it is not tmental illness.

> But they're sick evil motherfuckers. Tells me we
>should study them, look for ways to recognize such things earlier and

>should be trying to treat their mental illness.

No, perhaps you should be trying to treat their personality disorders,
but the reality is that the personality disorders most often
associated with criminal behavior are very difficult to treat. The
personality-disordered individual has intentionally created the
complex of attitudes and behaviors that make up their personality in
the psychological sense. They want to be who they are, and they want
to do what they do. Thus, there is no medication that will improve
their attitudes because the only chemistry involved is the positive
endorphin rush they get from self-centered attitudes. There is no
reasoning that will appeal to them because they flee from reason -- it
threatens their narcissistic delusions about themselves.

>Oh, we might not get very far. Not with this crop, perhaps not for
>several generations. But even if it takes a hundred years - well, I'm
>pretty sure in a hundred years there will still be sick, evil
>motherfuckers to deal with.

Actually, personality disorders are not quite so mysterious and
misunderstood. The whole notion of a sociopath or narcissist having
some vague, sympathic "problem," or being "sick" in the traditional
sense of the word, or being compelled by childhood incidents, is
rather antiquated. But it still has some cachet in pop-psychology
circles.

Most of that science has already been done. The public has yet to
catch up with it, and may be reluctant to do so.

Oops, you're right. :) Sometimes one Hillside Strangler is the same as
the other.

I agree that they're both simply evil persons.

Not in a legal sense, see M'Naghten Rules for the definition and history
of the insanity defence.

Nope, not in my opinion. If everyone who abuses animals was considered
*mentally ill*, hell, it would probably be between 25 to 40% of the
population. Watch one of the Animal Cops programs sometime to see just how
many people abuse animals.

Well according to my shrink, some people are simply mean, evil sons of

I think that his complete lack of empathy is indicative of some sort of
severe personality disorder.

While I agree that neglect is abuse, how about we use "torture" as a
deliberate term.

I just love it when all you mental morons exude all your brilliance in
analyzing the ills of everyone else. Not a single one of you baboons
knew Chis or anything about him. Well I did, and he was not evil, or
menatlly twisted young man. He was a smart kid, very trusting and
affectiinate, who NEVER met his psycho grand father. Considering some
of the loser men he had as role models in his life, it isn't surprising
to me that he aimlessly wandered and turned to drugs and poor peer
choices as far too many of our youth do. Maybe if some of you freeking
Eisteins that like to sit around on your fat asses and solve all the
worlds ills, would get off your fat asses and get involved in programs
like Big Bothers and youth sports, there wouldn't be horrible stories
like this for you to wow us with your lack of wit!

You also might want to google about the genetic components of mental
illness.

I don't know if your post is addressed to me, but I didn't say all
people who commit crimes do so because of personality disorders.
However, the ones who do have malevolent personality disorders are NOT
helped by the coddling and excuse-making that some people do for them,
nor are their victims, nor is society. The person with narcissistic
or anti-social personality disorder is actively inventing
rationalizations for their attitudes and behavior. Every time someone
invents an excuse for them, they use it to perpetuate their attitudes.
Believe me, these people are working their asses off to AVOID
morality, not to mention reality.

Isn't "Castillo", a dirty Spic surname? Bleh! That man had to be sick, and mentally stupid to have fathered any children with a Spic. I am sorry, but, those folks are plain ole dirty. So, I am guessing he most likely inherited the shooting from his mothers genes regardless. Had he stabbed her he would have inherited his white Italian fathers anti social personality. People with Anti Social Personality, like Angelo Buono was also was a Narcissist, which means he would not have killed himself because, he Narcissist's love themselves too much. Obviously, the kid was just sick, and most likely a thief, with emotional problems added in to his "Castillo" complex. Obviously, the mother popped out 5 kids with his father which means she was crazier to have stayed long enough to have as much kids with the sap, which, means, that she obviously had LOW SELF ESTEEM and was desperate for any man, especially, a White man to come love her. Don't give two shits if you call me racist, truth hurts. So eat it!

What a family of evil morons. Bo Raxo was an excellent participant in
this ng but hasn't been heard from in years and the post you are
responding to was a decade ago. Buono was just evil he had no signs of
mental illness such as delusions/hallucinations or bizarre thoughts
just routine rape and kill rapist thoughts that happen every year
somewhere in America. There is no hell. The evil ones perish in the
Lake Of Fire and that is it.
