OK, I've got 300 lbs of salt sprayed off my truck's underbody and frame from
winter and it's time to crank up the old compressor and do my rust proofing.

I've always used Rust Check (about $60 gallon (Can.)) but I have a pile of
Mercon V in almost new condition from my last trans fluid change. I've
tested it on paint but not rubber or plastic. It seems to "creep" very
nicely in my simple tests on an old rusted axe head as well. I tend to
rustproof my babies a couple of times a year and was thinking I could change
my transmission fluid more frequently and just use the ATF for undercoating
(I'm on a beer budget).

Has anyone got anything bad to say or why I shouldn't spray this excellent
semi-synthetic on the bottom of my truck? I've searched the net/newsgroups
but there's really no info on this - let's make it a first here.

If you've had a bad experience I'd love to know B4 I spray the ATF .. Thanks
in advance.

Hi....
I am planning to do the same thing. Haven't done it yet, but have 13 liters
of Dexron III waiting to do a job under my car. Live in Norway with lots of
snow and salt on winter time.....

spray that sucker down...dude

there are better products (as you've stated)

but

you're doing it a couple times a year?....so adhesion and "wash off"
shouldn't be a major issue......just do us all a favor....and do it in
an area that you can let it "sit and drip"...so the excess is
containable and collectable and not going in the enviroment.
Sounds like a viable recycle alternative to me.
