Very good so far, 6000 miles so far.
> Reliability?
Hasn't left us stranded like the Dodge Ram did by this time.
> Longevity?
Havn't had it for too long.
> Ease of maintenance?
Changing the oil filter is a bear. I havn't went on the sparkplug search
yet. I glanced to see where they were but didn't notice where they were
located.
> Oil consumption & Leaks?
None so far!
> Economy?
Surprisingly good. Get 20-23 hwy, and 1118 pulling my 6X12 Wells Cargo
enclosed trailer.

Being leary of automatics, this one seems to be very good. Throttle
touch gets you a downshift when I need it.

The 460 has been around since the mid 70s

I typically get approximately 12 mpg around town and have seen a high of 17 mpg
after mostly highway miles (4 spd auto, 4x4, 3.73 axle, 16 in std
tires/wheels). The transmission seems to do it's job without a hitch.

I have a 97 F150 4X4 w/5.4L, AT, and 3.55 gears. I now has 46K miles on it.
It is a very strong engine that seems to be stronger than late model stock
351's. Gas mileage has avg'd 14 locally and 17 on trips. So far, I have had
to replace 2 Oxygen sensors ($400). Changing the oil on the 97 is a breeze.
The filter is located remotely, on the frame behind the bumper. I understand
this is more difficult on the new ones, as the filter is located on the block
in a tight location. Spark plugs are a different story. This engine has 8
separate coils, each mounted on the top of each sparkplug. The plugs are
located on the intake side of the heads (toward the intake manifold), which
is different from the old, 5.0 and 5.8 liter engines. Shop manuals call for
2.5 hours time to change plugs and look to spend $170-$190 for a mechanic to
do it.
If you are looking for an F150 or Expedition, I would choose no other motor.
If you are looking at a heavy duty application, spend the bucks and go for
the Power Stroke.
Good luck!
