I just purchased a new Excursion PSD. Ziebart rustproofing for it costs
$309.00. I plan to keep this vehicle as long as it remains trouble free. So,
my big question is, is Ziebart rustproofing worth the money? Any and all
ideas are welcome. TIA.

Sorry for the top post :-)
Where are you located first? North of the SW or SE US? Then maybe it's
worrth it... if your south where there is no salt used on the roads and
basically little snow, dont waste your money, it will never rust. However,
if you are up north, do some shopping around and compare prices and then
tell the dealer you can get it for so and so a price and see if they'll beat
it. Either way, you will most likley have a kid using spray can undercoating
in the wheel wells and visible parts only unless you insist on the whole
undercarriage being done. This is known to be one of the biggest rip offs in
the industry. I had my little Toyota 4x4 done in 1990 in NY and it helped,
but it all wore off after a few winters. I think they wanted $399 from the
dealer and I called two places who said $200, so the dealer said ok and they
did it for that. Your locale is really the key here. Let us know... Good
luck.

Honestly, no. For one thing the processes the manufacturers use these days
tend to make a vehicle last much longer now than they did in the years that
Ziebart made their name. Rust proofing can actually cause rust if not
applied perfectly and in very dry conditions. If it is applied on a humid
day, moisture will get trapped between it and the metal and will eventually
cause it to rust, same will happen with undercoating. All undercoating is
good for it to quiet road noise, and in a few years will begin to flake and
peel off on the parts that could use the most protection, like the frame. We
have a 95 Grand Marquis that was never rust proofed or undercoated, doesnt
have a spec of rust on it, and we live in northern illinios where lots of
road salt is used, that and it sits outside most of the time. The paint is a
little worse for where, its a black car and there are little scratches all
over the clear coat, but not a spot of rust anywhere. I say use the money
for something you will really enjoy, like a nice CD changer or killer
stereo.

Also, if you do have it done, make sure all the drainage holes are clear
aftewords, or you've done more damage. These are usually in the body panels
though I would imagine there are other places too. The holes are there to
let water drain, and by clogging them, the water sits there and does more
damage.

Here is a rust proofing IDIOT story...
My father in laws IDIOT girlfriend bought a new Olds Lumina style van in
1990...the all fiberglass and composit body ones with a steel space frame.
The fool bought rustproofing for it since the dealer said she needed it.

Last I checked the frame could still rust on that van. However, I do agree
that it wouldn't be worth it...especially at the dealer.
