I see a lot of postings that state that the powerstroke is really an
International T444E. I went to International'sr web page and see some
differences in the specs.
For example, the Ford manual states that the lubrication capacity is
~14Quarts; International says 18Quarts. Does that mean that Ford uses a
different oil pan? Does that mean that the engine was really engineered for
more oil capacity but Ford puts on a different one - or is it a different
engine and not really the T444E?
Another question: International says the oil change interval is 10,000 miles
(normal use) but Ford recommends no more than 5,000; 3,000 in harsh
conditions. So why the discrepancy?
The governed speed is also 2600 RPMs on the T444E; is that the same on the
Powerstroke?
Inquisitive minds are longing for the answer...

It is the t444e. Different oil pan, higher governed speed due to
different injectors and such put on it by ford. The higher governed
speed and lower oil capacity may have something to do with the shorter
oil change interval. If you want to know more, go to
www.ford-diesel.com and do some searching in the forrums and other
places.
