Question for all you guru's out there...

I see a lot of postings that state that the powerstroke is really an
International T444E. I went to International'sr web page and see some
differences in the specs.

For example, the Ford manual states that the lubrication capacity is
~14Quarts; International says 18Quarts. Does that mean that Ford uses a
different oil pan? Does that mean that the engine was really engineered for
more oil capacity but Ford puts on a different one - or is it a different
engine and not really the T444E?

Another question: International says the oil change interval is 10,000 miles
(normal use) but Ford recommends no more than 5,000; 3,000 in harsh
conditions. So why the discrepancy?

The governed speed is also 2600 RPMs on the T444E; is that the same on the
Powerstroke?

Inquisitive minds are longing for the answer...

It is the t444e. Different oil pan, higher governed speed due to
different injectors and such put on it by ford. The higher governed
speed and lower oil capacity may have something to do with the shorter
oil change interval. If you want to know more, go to
www.ford-diesel.com and do some searching in the forrums and other
places.

I do maintenance on 4 of my companies T444E 210 HP in 4700 International
Trucks 18 to 19 Quarts is normal larger oil pan , 6,500 miles is about
all you can get between oil changes .the manual states 10,000 miles but
even International says this is not possible. as for the 2600 rpms the say
it has to do with the emissions they can't change this or the idle do to
government regulations the T444E and the Powerstroke are the same.

The T444 is indeed the ford powerstroke, Ford changed some things as to the
oil capacity it could be the oil pan or cooler. The oil change interval is
for an engine by mostly non commercial people so the build of of harmeful
deposits is greater is the short trips most people do. Ford governs theres
at 3200 RPM I dont know why I have a hunch it has to do with the pcm
settings. The torque is way up on a T444 but the lite duty trannys would die
under that.
