I need your help. My truck just got its engine replaced at 25k. I was told
its a new engine but after speaking to ford customer service, I was told it
is not a new engine but a rebuilt-ford-certified. I have extended
warranty(48k/5 years). If the engine dies at 50k, am I screwed? I was told
there is 2 year warranty on every parts that is replaced by ford. Does that
mean if the engine is replaced again at 40k, warranty on the engine is
extended till 64k? I feel that Im getting screwed from ford big time.
First of all, the engine should not have been failed. Second, I should be
getting a brand new engine, not a rebuild ford certified or what ever they
call it, used engine IS used engine. Third, if my engine failed at 25k,
warranty on the engine should start at 25k and until what ever warranty I
bought. Example: I bought 48k/5 year warranty. My engine died at 25k. My
warranty on the engine is now extended until 73k. Am I asking for too much?

I would also like your feed back on experience with engine replacement. At
what mileage it was replaced and how long did it live and any horror
stories.

Lacking some vital information here...

What year truck?
What Model truck?
What size engine?

We can't help you any until you give us some specific information...we're
not psychic here. ;)

I have used several of the Ford Authorized Remanufactured engines and found
them to be every bit as good as new ones.

Having some experience with Ford's system of authorizing companies to
remanufacture their products, I would say that you have a 50/50 chance of
getting a better engine from a certified source than you would with a new
one.

Don't get me started on Ford's "factory authorized rebuilt engines".

Last year, I paid well over $2000 for a new V6 in my Bronco II after a oil
pump failure. Less than 20 miles, I began having problems; the dealer
(that's Fitzgerald Ford/Mercury in Fitzgerald GA, folks!) refused to repair
the 1 day old engine under warranty. Instead, I was charged another $150
for them to PROPERLY reroute the spark plug wires.

Within two months, I began experiencing coolant loss and sluggish
performance. I went round and round with the dealer until I couldn't stand
the sight of their sign anymore. Finally moved out of state -- and found
that after driving cross-country, my wonderful new reman engine was out of
warranty! Silly me, I had driven 13,000 miles in 10 months, exceeding the
warranty by 1000 miles before stopping at another dealer out of state.

So -- the Ford Customer Assitance Center basically told me "too bad". After
sending them multiple emails and snail mails, plus about 3 dozen phone
calls, they stopped responding. That was in February, and I finally had to
junk the Bronco when that engine completely died (blown head gasket AND
cracked head).

Happy motoring to you!

The dealer is replacing the 4.0L engine in my 98 Ranger with a rebuilt
unit. They have the right to do this (it's in the fine print of the
warranty) but I'm not pleased.

Actually the remanufactured stuff from Ford is usually as good and sometimes
better than new. Parts other than the housing are used but not a lot
anything that is subject to wear Cluthces, bands, thrust washers, bearings,
seals, gaskets, servos, actuating pins & rods and any other parts that the
wear surfaces show damage or excessive wear ( any wear usually) and Ford
gives the same warrantee as new.
