How can I decode Expedition VIN numbers? Of specific interest are codes for
4-wheel versus 2-wheel drive, and to tell the difference between the two V-8
engine variants.

Wouldn't it be easier to just lift the hood and look under the front
end?

the "check digit" is a mathematical calculation
using all of the other digits in the VIN and will be
different for EVERY single VIN (but obviously,
being a digit, it is only 0-9 or maybe X.

OK, the manual was not clear, they showed a 5, but I thought it changed
since mine was a 1 even though the manual said 5.

It amazes me that someone will pay $20K-$40K for a truck and is
then too cheap to purchase the Helms manuals. Penny-wise and
pound foolish.....

Those manuals are extremely detailed and worth every cent.

The ONLY reason I paid $25K CDN for MY truck is that is what the MARKET says
I have to.
I used to think $300 hammers for the government was joke, anyone price out a
door handle?
In the 'real' world, high volumes = low prices, however in the automotive
world, more sales = higher prices.
Does anyone really believe the am/fm/cass radio for my '97 really is worth
$1000 CDN? If so, please buy it, I could use some coin. Being in the
electronics field for 30+ years, I doubt there's $30 in this
radio, especially in the quantity they sell.
