in 2002, I bought a battery jumper pack called a Winchester. Cost about $75.
Worked for a couple jumps, and then I noticed the battery didn't hold a
charge. Has a 17 ah battery, and a 300 watt inverter mounted on it, so I
could have a few minutes of 110 VAC mod sine power. Back then, I was doing
HVAC and needed lighting in odd moments, and sometimes the power wasn't on.
The economy was moving, and I had work. So, I went out and bought another
one. Turns out this one didn't hold a charge well, either. I phoned the
plant in Dayton, OH, and talked to someone there. He said they bought a load
of old batteries, and sorry. He had a couple batteries on his work bench
that held a charge, and send me one for $30 cash. I did, and the battery
arrived. Not too bad to put it in.
So, last Saturday I needed it to jump a car in a parking lot. I'd charged it
a couple days before, but no joy. Had to push the car out, and someone there
had cables.
I looked at the manual, I'm surprised the battery lasted ten years. Called
the factory number, and got someone else. Googled the adress, and it's now a
HVAC install and service company in that building. Guess I won't get another
battery from All-Start LLC, any more.
Ebay had a similar battery for about $28, postpaid, with 18 month warranty.
I ordered one, and we'll see how that works in the jump pack. See if it
fits, and if it wires in. Wish me luck.
