i think the trucks are governed to cut the fuel off at about 95 mph .my
97 with 350 will only do about 95 before the fuel or spark is cut off

curious question.... how do you disable the cutoff.... is it possible ... it's
annoying to
have governors.... it's like taxes and big government...
on the serious side... my 6.0 liter 2000 year cuts at 95 ish... annoying when
peddaling
in hills of west virginny...

The easiest way is with an aftermarket computer chip or programmer.
Hypertech and Superchips both have the option of raising the speed limiter.
My 99 5.3 Z71 easily pegs the speedometer at 100; calculating from the tach
I've had it to about 110 or so, and it had some left there.

My friend's 89 goes 140 mph stock and now goes near 160 but it takes a
little while.

my 1990  5 liter silverado truck made it to 115 mph but I cann't remember if it hit 120 of not...
It's my second truck and I wouldn't do more than 100 now since it's
'old'.
Is 130,000 miles old? ....hummmm.
So my 1990 silver goes faster than my 2000 silver...  poouhey!

Hi, No doubt your truck is probably limited to do no more than
95-99mph.
If you wish to get around this, look to someone like Hypertech, for a
reprogrammer.

140-160 kph would be a lot more realistic...

have a '91 c1500 w/ 305 and 3.08 rear and 700r4 trans. Cant seem to get it to
go over 110 mph (wraps speedo around to 20-clocked at 100 and speedo was on
10). for one thing, as long as the pedal is to the floor it wont shift into
fourth gear

Well, sir, that depends. My '95 5.7 is equipped with the Edelbrock
MPI system along with a few other goodies, and cruises at 125 all day
long, as the friendly state troopers in Kentucky will attest. My
stock 94 5.7 will go a hundred, but I've never sustained that speed
for very long.

my '91 s10 is limited to 126 by the chip(it doesnt cutout, it just doesnt go
any faster)...and i've had it there..my speedo tops at 85-90ish..but i have a
friend with a '93 dakota with a 318, and his speedo tops at 125, and we put it
there, both of us side by side on a loonngg roadtrip...took a little while to
gain those last mph though..

That is normal.. the 700r4 assumes you want to pass someone.. so it
down shifts..
if you want to go fast in o.d... disconnect your kick down cable.. and
GENTLY accelerate up to speed :P~

700r4 transmissions dont have a "kick down cable", they have a TV cable. IF you
disconnect it, you can kiss the trans good bye in a VERY short time, like a mile or
two. The TV cables job is to increase line pressure in the trans in proportion to
the throttle setting.

I know it looks like a kick down cable, but its not.

oops.. obviously the sarcasm in that post was lost ;)
actully the TV cable IS a kickdown cable.. (more formally known as a
Throttle Velocity cable) it tells the trans you just whaped the gas
to the floor.. and that it needs to come out of overdrive, and boost
line pressure for a hard accel :>

bullshit

the cable is referred to by GM as a 'throttle cable'.........because it
controls 'throttle pressure', which in turn controls line pressure.

When throttle pressure overcomes governor pressure, downshifts (kickdown)
occurs. When governor pressure overcomes throttle pressure, upshifts
happen.

Please note on the 700R4 (4L60) it is not a kick down cable, it is a TV
cable ( throttle valve) and it controls line pressure. Unhooking this is a
quick way to melt your trans. Get in touch with a high perf shop ( like
Summit)and ask for B&M's kit that allows high speed use of 4th gear (which
is standard on all auto Corvettes).

I KNOW its not a 350, I work on the things for a living.

It is a throttle cable, it controls throttle pressure, which in turn
controls:

line pressure (which I didn't address because the guy was seemingly fixated
on 'kickdown')

upshift speed

'kick-down'

I must be accessing the wrong GM Service Information Website. It is referred to
as a throttle cable there.......

Obviously the GM service manuals I own are incorrect as well; they misprinted it
as a throttle cable, too.
