Miles Taylor, a former member of the “resistance” in the Trump
administration, predicted Thursday that former President Donald Trump could
“turn off the internet” if elected to the White House again.
Taylor made the claim during an appearance on MSNBC to host Jen Psaki, who
served as the White House press secretary for President Joe Biden before
joining the news network. Taylor became famous in 2020 after leaving the
Trump administration and claiming authorship of an anonymously published New
York Times op-ed from a “resistance” official under Trump.
Psaki said Trump, if elected to another term in the White House, could “use
the levers of government to bend to his will.”
“You’ve worked in government. What scares you the most?” the MSNBC host asked
Taylor.
“The possibilities are almost limitless,” Taylor stated. “The biggest
concerns for me are on the national security side. I think Americans still
don’t understand the full extent of the president’s powers, and things Donald
Trump could do, bubble-wrapped in legalese, that could be damaging to the
republic.”
Taylor then spoke of a “doomsday book” inside the White House, and said that
the Department of Homeland Security had authorized him to reveal its
existence to the public for the first time. The book, according to Taylor,
“is supposed to be used to protect the country in instances of armed foreign
invasion or rebellion.”
“It’s the president’s most extraordinary powers,” Taylor said, adding that it
“could be picked up by Trump and used for domestic political purposes.”
“He could invoke powers we’ve never heard a President of the United States
invoke – potentially to shut down companies or turn off the internet or
deploy the U.S. military on U.S. soil,” he said. “We don’t know, because the
things that are in there, the emergency powers of the president, aren’t
widely known to the American people.”
“That’s a big worry for people like me and others who worry about what he
could do. But that weaponization of government could extend across the
interagency to places we haven’t seen it before – the Department of
Education, the Department of Veterans Affairs – ways to wield that power and
those budgets to help his allies and to hurt his enemies,” he continued.

In addition to Taylor, numerous other prominent Trump critics, such as former
congresswoman Liz Cheney and former Trump fixer Michael Cohen, have predicted
similarly disastrous outcomes from a second Trump presidency. Cohen claimed
Trump would “annex” Canada and become an American “fuhrer” and “make everyone
raise their hand and solute him.”

radical predictions of a second Trump term.
