The weather is warm here in northern Florida, so I've been out MDing several
times. Last week I went to a lot with an old building that used to be a
church in the 1930s but now is closed. It's attached to a meeting house for
the city firefighters club. They were having elections, with a lot of
people and cars in the parking lot. I asked if it's OK to search with my
metal detector and got permission with no trouble.
Came up with:
... Four Wheat Cents, 1936, 1944, 1945, 1946.
... One War Nickel, 1944.
... Four quarters, all clad.
... Three dimes, all clad.
... One modern nickel.
... 32 Memorial cents, some copper and some clad.
The
Also came up with dozens of pulltabs and bottle caps. I didn't reject
pulltabs because I was allowing nickels.
Also came up with a odd-looking badge with wings and a dragon on it, and a
small button with a lion's head. No idea about their history.
All the clads and the modern nickel came up black, while the War Nickel came
up bright and shiny (it's 35 percent silver).
The junk stuff will go to recycling. The Wheat Cents and War Nickel will go
into the coin collection.
The clads and cents will get cleaned and go back into circulation. (It
helps to buy new batteries).
The detector is a Teknetics Gamma. I started using the 9.5x5.5 inch NEL DD
Sharpshooter coil, but when the trash got so thick I switched to the NEL 5
inch Sharp coil.
That's a pretty good day. Good weather, good exercise, and good finds.
