I just bought a brand new Generation 2 Tamagotchi at Wal-Mart.
I'm looking for info on how to get the four different secret
characters. If you have info (either from yourself or you know a
webpage I can go to), please email me or else post it here.
Thanks!
Annamae
There is ony one secret character in the Gen 2 Tamagotchi, purportedly
an Alien. The "dog" (Potchitchi, or something like that) is the character
that generates the alien. There are no other secret characters.
Well, I lied just a bit. There were two versions of the Tam 2 when it came
out in Japan. Call tehm Gen 2a and Gen 2b. The 2a had the dog that turned
into
the sumo wrestler. This character was changes to an alien in the US version.
The
Japanese 2b replaced the dog with a cat (Nyatchi) and that character changes
into
the bicycle-rider (Chari-chi). I have not seen a US version of the Gen 2b
Tamagotchi
yet.

The pootchitchi is NOT the one that turns into the alien! It turns
into a Nyatchi (cat) instead. I don't know what the orgin of the alien
is called, but it has lots of legs and is mostly black.

Isn't that always the way? I was so excited about being able to get the
cool sumo wrestler and now all I have to look forward to is the stupid
alien? Uh. It's almost as disapointing as getting that stupid secret
character in the generation 1 (the stupid Bill Clinton face).
Anyone else have any info on Generation 2 tams?
Annamae
Whoops, minor correction... <flips through book> The Alien with the
mask and 8 legs (Zukitchi) turns into the secret character. Nothing special
here,
the shapes of the characters were changed for the 2nd generation, but the
rest of the "game" remained the same (yes, even the hi-low game is no
different
than the left-right game). The "Zukitchi" changes into either the Samurai
*or* the Bicycle rider, depending on whether you have the 2a or 2b version.
The dog and cat characters don't turn into anything.
The "alien" I am talking about is the flat-headed monstrosity on the US
version
of the Tamagotchi 2. Anyone ever get this one?
I have the Bandai chart (from Japan) right here in front of me,
it distinctly says the dog (replaced with the cat) and alien->bicycle rider.
The dog was replaced by the cat when the 2nd series of Gen 2 Tamagotchi was
released in Japan. There's no way to get both the dog and the cat on the
same
Tamagotchi.
Ok Ok !
So 2 questions :
How can I know I have a 2a or 2b version of tama ?
Is it somewhere a grow chart that is right ?
Thank you
Bye

Well I have a chart too and IT distinctly says that the dog turns into
the cat, the samurai turns into the bike rider, and the Zukitchi (is
that what its called?) turns into the Alien. Could there be a Generation
2c? Carolyn

Where is this chart from? If it's from one of the websites, I think it'd be
suspect.
The chart on Tamagotchi Fever!, for instance:
http://www.maido.to/stages2.htm
is all wrong.
http://www.maido.to/chart2.htm
is the correct chart.
I've seen websites that have the characters listed in the manner you
describe,
but never a publication, or Bandai. All of my books have it listed in the
manner
I described. What can easily settle the matter is determining if you can get
both
the dog and cat on the same Tamagotchi. I'm saying it can't be done. Either
you
have a Tamagotchi with the dog character, or the cat.
Here's where the confusion came from:
Feb 97, Japan releases the Gen 2 tamagotchi in 4 colors:
Yellow w/orange trim & buttons,
blue w/pictures, yellow trim & buttons,
clear green with blue buttons,
white with blue pictures, blue trim & buttons.
these 4 have the dog and sumo characters
The packaging is distinguishable by the English word "Tamagotch" in pink
letters
on a yellow background. The UFO on the package is blue.
in May 97, Japan released the version 2b in 4 colors:
Red w/white lettering and buttons,
clear yellow with yellow buttons,
navy blue with black trim & yellow buttons,
translucent white with pink buttons.
these four have the cat and bicycle rider characters.
The packaging has the word "Tamagotch" in blue letters on a pink background.
The UFO on the package is orange.
The 2a has the dog character and the samurai. The 2b has the cat and the
bicycle rider.
The US version of the Tam 2 has the samurai changed into the wierd alien (not
the octopus
alien, another type) and the "ghost" of the dead tamagotchi turned into a
"flying-away" UFO.
I have not heard of the 2b being released in the US, but it's possible.
Thank you for your explanations, because there are a lot of growcharts
on the net, with many diffs. and it was very hard to know how to get a
secret char, and what it will be.
So it seem that it is only one secret character pro tam, depending on
the version, and the way to get it is zukitchi :
ver 2a JP : zukitchi can become sumo
ver 2b JP : zukitchi can become rider
ver 2a US : zukitchi can become alien
ver 2b US : unknown
Is that right ?
If yes why all the sites can't be so transparent in their charts ?
Thank you in advance for an answer
Bye

Tama owner
Yes, and the Ver 2a JP and 2a US have the dog character.
2b JP has the cat, and I am assuming the cat will be in a forthcoming
US 2b version. I don't think they will change the cat, since it is not an
"ethnic" Japanese character and it has nothing to do with the death
of a Tamagotchi.
The biggest problems with growth charts are:
1. Constructed by word of mouth/rumor.
2. Copied from other sites without accuracy checking
3. Not being able to read Japanese/get ahold of Japanese publications.
(I really think the latter in this case, since these publications show the
chart
as a picture and little or no text.)
For example: Jun's Tamagotchi site in Japan originally had info on the Gen 2
characters, and showed animated GIF's of what they looked like. It was
*NOT* a growth chart. Shortly thereafter, US Tamagotchi sites were having
the same pictures up, and claiming they were.
In case anyone wants to check up on me, since I seem to be the only one aware
of the 2a and 2b Japanese versions, you can find it on Pg 10 and 11 of the
"Tenshitch no Tamagotch to Asobuhon" ISBN4-89366-799-8. It also has the
complete Angelgotchi growth chart, (which I tried to reproduce on my website
below)
and also the characters for the Tamapitchi (celluar Tamagotchi telephone).
You can probably get these books at a local Japanese bookstore. If you live
in
a major US city look for "Kinokuniya Bookstores" or "Asahiya Bookstores/
Asahiya Shouten" either of these two carry this title (and many others). I
think
they also do mail order, so, for everyone's convenience, they can be reached
via
information in Los Angeles (1-213-555-1212). They also have other stores in
New York
and Chicago.
