Apparently this is news from March, but I didn't know about it until
now (I am notoriously bad about checking the message boards since,
well, I patently can't stand them):

http://tinyurl.com/c8hcj2g

Evidently, this is all stuff for the Asian market, which I take to
mean that Hasbro isn't planning on importing it right now, but I
suspect that they might if the domestic demand is high enough.

Remember those hard-to-find Legends versions of G1 Optimus Prime,
Starscream, Prowl, and Trailcutter? There are going to be redeco
versions as Motormaster, Thundercracker, Bluestreak, and Hoist. I'm
very excited about Hoist, and Bluestreak makes a lot of sense, but I
dislike the idea of Motormaster just being Optimus Prime in different
colors. This is the second time they've done this and I feel like it
really cheapens Motormaster. You'd think they'd just continue with
the existing precedents and redo him as Ultra Magnus or Nemesis Prime.

Also, they're taking Reveal the Shield Special Ops Jazz and turning it
into Wheelie. (Yeah, I don't get it, either.) Also, the mysterious
alternate head seen on Generations Sargeant Kup's instructions would
seem to be that of Swerve. I can't believe that Hasbro remembered
that Swerve used to be a pick-up truck.

Other strange and interesting redeco decisions: The Universe version
of Inferno, redone as Protectobot Hot Spot. Revenge of the Fallen
Bludgeon, given a new head and reborn as samurai G2 Megatron. I'm all
for paying homage to G2, but... really?!

These don't look that great. Brawl from Breacher, while Breacher was a
great toy, they just aren't the same character. And Dunerunner as
Sandstorm? We're losing a mode and getting a not-that-great mold
reuse. Laserbeak using Skystalker mold? maybe, but the Skystalker
colors are the best colors I can imagine that mold in, Laserbeak
colors wouldn't be that different, though Skystalker does have a bird
mode.

They're remolding Cliffjumper to be....Cliffjumper. Springer...maybe
might work, though I think that mold was better as spinister. Wheelie
sounds awful, Swerve would be much better if we got some surface
retexturing. Dead end is logical and I'm wondering what took them so
long.

Powerdive hotspot and Brawn seem logical, I didn't get the Highbrow
mold here...ever, and I'd like to get it. Hotspot, well I don't expect
Protectobot combiners, so this is the next best. I hope they do more
remolding than just the head, like they did for Grapple.

Any re-use of DOTM Bludgeon they've done so far has just looked like a
knockoff Bludgeon, like something you expend to in Family Dollar or
Biglots, or bundled in one those large Easter baskets that have
terrible low-grade power ranger knockoffs.

As for the Leader class, logical, expected...meh. They seem fine, no
problems, though I'd love it if they made their faces more G1 like. I
doubt it will happen.

Rumble and Kup seem interesting, they're wave 5 and we're just getting
the beginning of wave 3 here (I saw1 hotshot here, but no Knockout)

Hot Spot makes sense. I'd rather see them use Cybertron Optimus Prime, but what were the odds of that.

Bludgeon as Megatron makes less sense of the surface, but Alternity Megatron has all of the Samurai details, so it just combines elements of both. Depending on the color scheme, I might be intrigued.

At the time Breakdown came out, there was a Deluxe in the ROTF line
going by that name, who was a remould of ROTF Sideways. I suspect
that's why.

Yeah. Bludgeon's one of those toys who is just so incredibly specific
to the character he is that it's very difficult to see him as anybody
else. It sort of worked with Banzai-Tron, who was at least another
character with a samurai motif (and Banzai-Tron's colours made him
look like an early 90s Halloween decoration, which is awesome) so that
made sense. Everything else since, though...Overlord? Really?

(Aside: I would die if Hasbro made a new Cyberverse Overlord at that
new $30 price point.)

I'm thinking a lot of these are deliberately weird and lazy because
they're last-minute additions. I think Hasbro was expecting more Movie
product to filter in, and a few of these kind of fit that, but most of
them just look so...bad that I don't even see why they'd be worth
doing. If most of these came out here, they'd flop.

I think Asia is just not into Prime, and this is what they get instead.

Yeah, that's kind of the impression I'd gotten, too. These are the
sorts of half-assed homage toys we were getting back in the early
2000's.

So, whatever happened to Perceptor-as-Reflector and Scourge-as-Ratbat
and Warpath-as-Hardhead and the other Generations redeco toys we were
allegedly going to get at some point? Are those dead in the water?
(I wasn't necessarily dead set on owning a Perceptor-as-Reflector, but
hey, if it's done well...)

So in the aligned continuity Frenzy ans Rumble are
Minicons, so Hasbro's decision to give one a car
altmode makes no sense. Cars are not "mini." And
it's a deluxe toy? Makes even less sense.

Well, maybe they were originally Mini-Cons (a term which makes sense
inasmuch as they're miniature Decepticons, and the tapes do seem to be
the approximate equivalent to the Mini Autobots) but at some point one
or both of them got an upgrade to a larger, more powerful form,
similar to the description of Ruckus's career in his Marvel Comics
TRANSFORMERS UNIVERSE profile.

Also, we all know that the size of a character's toy has absolutely no
bearing on the size of his character in the fiction. Otherwise,
Nightscream could kick the crap out of Metroplex and Trypticon.

I'm assuming those are in the 2013 Generations lineup. They claim
there's something like 40 figures coming out for it next year, which
says to me it'll be full-blown and have plenty of room for stuff like
that. (Screw it, put those guys in versus packs!)

No, don't give them ideas! They'll throw together one new, highly-
coveted toy and some worthless redeco of a toy we all own already and
expect us to pay $21.96 for it!

Is this in reference to the Battle in Space 2 pack?

Not specifically, since Battle in Space was, technically, a redeco set
of *two* toys that we all owned already. (Cyclonus was a major
improvement, admittedly, but still.)

I think that Hasbro likes to milk the collectors when they think they
can get away with it. They do it a lot with Star Wars, too. The
recent Episode I multi-packs come to mind.

And imagine BM Supreme Cheetor taking on Unicron.

I'd buy a video of that battle if it was officially animated and sent
straight to DVD.

I like to think that the TF:Universe line was different in that respect. Since each character was pulled from a different universe, they wouldn't have had to respect any size relationships between each other. Why not have a giant spider bigger than a car? Some universes are just bigger than others.
