Hello there fellow Transfans,

I am currently working on a new TF project (as always) and this time I'm
busy making subtitles for the Prime season 2 Torrent episodes available
from TFW2005.com's Prime Talk message boards.

Now I do not recommend anyone here jump ship and join TFW2005,
especially if you like it here. However, If you already watch season 2
by downloading the torrents, and would like to have some subtitles then,
this is certainly something you may be interested in.

I currently have the introduction sequence to Orion Pax - Part 1
completed. If anyone should download it and test it out, I would very
much like to read what you have to say.

Link:
http://www.box.com/s/58cc5f2bb05c786a16f3

Instructions for using the subtitles in VLC Media Player:

1. Download the subtitle file, saving it to the same location as the
video file.
2. Open the video file with VLC.

*As long as you have not changed the name of the video file, the
subtitles will be loaded automatically. If you have already changed
the video file's name, then you can either change the name of subtitle
file to match it, or open the subtitle file within VLC.

To open the subtitle file within VLC:
1. Begin playing the video file.
2. Click Video > Subtitles Track > Open File...
3. Navigate to the subtitle file and click Open.

The subtitles should now be displayed.

That's great news. I am hard of hearing so this is greatly
appreciated. I have Zoom Player so I hope subtitles work there.

I wish someone would provide subtitles for the Shout Factory released
DVDs like G1 and Beast Wars. I think these Shout Factory dvds will be
the last releases of these cartoons for a while. I was very
disappointed that Shout Factory would not provide subtitles
themselves. It should be easy to provide them for G1 because dialog
scripts are already typed up in the Cybertron Chronicle website. I
thought it was a law to provide subtitles for commercially-released
DVDs.

Dude. I'm your man! Um... I don't have those, so I can't start on that
until I can get them somehow.

I'd love to do that, though.

This is true for a lot of Shout Factory DVDs. I think it's a cost
saving measure.

For anyone who uses Zoom Player things are a little different than
with other programs. In fact I need to upload a new subtitle file
that is compatible with Zoom Player. This is not really an inconvenience
for me and I think I'll have it uploaded later this afternoon.

Instructions to load subtitles with Zoom Player:

1. install a subtitle filter called "DirectVobSub". This filter is
freely available and can be found at the URL below.

http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/formats/vsfilter.shtml

2. You must make sure you have the latest version installed as certain
subtitle files won't load if the latest version isn't installed. Also,
the subtitle files need to share the same base name as the media file
you are trying to play.

Example:
transformers-video.avi
transformers-video.sub

One thing to note is, If you have Zoom Player set to automatically set
a specific subtitle track (Advanced Options / Playback), and the
specified track is not found, subtitles may get disabled and you will
have to enable it (Ctrl+"B").

I have uploaded the Zoom Player subtitles for the episode Orion Pax,
Part 1. They're still a work in progress, and I estimate only about
50% of it has been subtitled.

Still that should be enough to give me feedback, and also allow me to
make corrections according to the feedback.

I could send you my box set copy of the Shout Factory G1. You can keep
it. This is my very small way of saying thanks for taking the time to
provide subtitles for the G1 cartoon. To make it even easier for you,
ask Rik Bakke of the Cybertron Chronicle for permission to use his
typed up dialog scripts.

Do I send it to you?

I thought it was against the law not to provide subtitles for the main
feature of commercially-available DVDs. I am disappointed that it is
not.

Absolutely. Send me an email and we'll continue this there.

Something you need to know upfront is that this is very time consuming,
and it will probably take me a long while to actually complete the
series.

I will do my best to keep you updated on the progress. Completed works
would be uploaded the same day they're ready, and I'd love to hear from
anyone who uses the subtitles. Honestly, if I can improve my work I
want to know.

I don't see why it would be. DVDs fall under entertainment; it's not
like they're, for example, a restaurant or a public institution, which
require handicap access ramps and such.

I did some Googling and found that, in fact, it's not illegal at all.
It's 'unfortunate' for sure (I love subtitles!) but what do you expect
them to do?

Does anyone here watch these episodes with Windows Media Player? I've
been experimenting with subtitles for Windows Media Player and it's a
lot more difficult that anything else. You gotta make a SAMI file...
and they like milliseconds and not just plain minutes and seconds.

Stupid Microsoft (Ok so it's not really Microsoft's fault how SAMI
works, but they didn't try and allow other formats).

Update! I have completed the episode "Orion Pax - Part 1" and the
finished product can be downloaded and enjoyed from the link below.

Transformers Prime: Orion Pax - Part 1:
http://www.box.com/s/e03feb80c8cd7ad066e9

This file should sync up perfectly to the episodes available from
TFW2005.

Link to episodes:
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-prime-discussion/365036-transformers-prime-encodes-videos.html

If anyone has any trouble getting the subtitles to load you can send me
an email, or simply reply to this post.

NOTE: They will not work with Windows Media Player because I'm still
trying to learn SAMI file creation.

As always feedback is welcome and appreciated.

This link says that it is illegal.

http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/hearing/pages/caption.aspx

"The FCC rules on closed captioning became effective January 1, 1998.
They require people or companies that distribute television programs
directly to home viewers to make sure those programs are captioned.
Under the rules, 100 percent of nonexempt programs shown on or after
January 1, 1998, must be closed captioned by January 1, 2006. Also, 75
percent of nonexempt programs shown before January 1, 1998, must be
closed captioned by January 1, 2008. The rules do not apply to
videotapes, laser disks, digital video disks, or video game
cartridges."

G1 Transformers was a TV program shown on TV even today. So, it should
have been captioned and Shout! Factory could have incoporated them in
the DVDs.
