I was listening to Pop Will Eat Itself's Can You Dig It on the way
to work yesterday morning, and herd something that sounded odd to
me.

The lyrics:
"We dig Optimus Prime and not Galvatron"

I have no idea what year this song was written, but I'm sure it
was probably some time after the animated movie, but was there
really ever a time where Galvatron actually replaced Megatron?
I mean, yes, Megatron was dead. I am pretty certain that for
all intents and purposes Galvatron was the defacto leader of
the Decepticons, but I never really would have told anyone that
I saw him as that. It was always Megatron to me. Always.

Maybe I'm just the crazy lone fan, though. Just seems like they
should have said Megatron to me. Oh well.

It's from 1989.

Also, yeah, Galvatron totally replaced Megatron. Megatron was gone,
Galvatron led the Decepticons. And...he 'was' Megatron.

It's like questioning if Rodimus Prime was really the leader of the
Autobots. Yes, of course he was, the only other possible leader
(Optimus Prime) was dead and buried. (Until he came back.)

I really wish we got more episodes with Optimus and Galvatron. The dynamic there worked really well in TROOP.

PWEI is actually my favorite band! Where do you think my name comes
form?

That song is like a geek anthem. In addition to the Transformers
reference, there's lines like "we dig Marvel and DC," and "Alan Moore
knows the score," plus there are Twilight Zone and Terminator and
Bruce Lee callouts, and heck, the title of the song (and its samples)
are from The Warriors!
