Hot Rod is now red, not a dark maroon-ish pink. It's more suiting. (Yes, this
is my weakest argument, as he might actually not supposed to be pure red).
Arcee is now "chick-mech pink"--aka Hot Magenta. If you've seen enough
feminine mechs from Japan, you know what color I mean--anime female mecha re
not that light, pastel, pink---they are that deep, intense magenta color--and
now she is. I'm 99% sure this is a much more "correct" color for her.
Galvatron is PURPLE, really close to Decepticon purple. The VHS always has him
as blue, barely purple. Same for Shockwave--he's PURPLE, not grey-purple.
Soundwave just seems to be a much more correct shade of blue, and the grass is
greener on the other side. (Look at the Lookout Mountain scenes).
Finally----lasers/plasma/etc are much more differentiated---there are many
shades of bluish green now---there's basically bright aquamarine, and Borg
green.
Overall, all the colors seem to match what we "expect" better than what always
was shown on tape---I.E. Shockwave is purple, Hot Rod is red, Arcee's magneta,
rather than what the pale tape showed us----puce Hot Rod, carnation Arcee, and
grey Shockwave. (And it just looks better, too).
PS---new footage---1 extra second on first shot of Autobot moonbase, 1 extra
second on "day to night" transition scene at Autobot city, and when Galvaltron
first returns to Unicron, thinking he took care of the Matrix, the whole scene
is different--you see Unicron's maw, then it slowly pans down to show
Galvatron---hard to describe but most of the people on this newsgroup will
notice a different scene. :)

Sigh. Does this remind anyone else of the Avid VHS release? :P

Well, I haven't seen the DVD release, but based on your findings I would have
to disagree. Hot Rod isn't supposed to be red at all. He's magenta. Arcee
*is* supposed to be pastel pink, and Galvatron *is* supposed to be a
blue-purple. It sounds like the Kid Rhino guys cranked up the hue saturation a
bunch, perhaps?

I'm very reluctant to assume that there really is "new" footage within the film
itself, other than Spike's cut line. Which transition scene are you referring
to--right after Blaster says "We're all gonna look like burnt-out toaster
ovens?" Unless there's simply a longer pause after they fade to black, I can't
imagine there being an additional second during one of the animated scenes,
since that would require an extra second added to the music track as well. As
for the Galvatron scene, did you compare it to your video copy to make sure you
weren't just remembering it wrong?
Zobovor... very wary about this sort of thing, you understand. :)
