I got a mailer today from 3H Enterprises about BotCon '98. There's nothing
TOO fancy here -- a folded-sheet double-sided flyer enclosing a registration
form -- but there are a few tidbits of interest.
1. The flyer "cover" has a greyscale image, obviously a larger version of the
picture shown on Jon Hartman's page ("What is this robot looking at?").
Optimus Prime and Arcee are facing down a crowd of Decepticon leaders:
Shockwave, Scorponok, Bludgeon, Galvatron, Megatron, and Thunderwing. They
appear to be across a table, on which is a space scene of some sort. What
this has to do with BEAST WARS and the convention theme ("Unleash the beast!")
is beyond me.
2. The Anaheim Marriott hotel is $115/night. Yikes! Glad I live in L.A.;
I really think I'll pass on the hotel.
3. Special arrangements have been made for discount airfares, freight rates,
and rental car rates, all with United Airlines. Call the United Meetings desk
at 800-521-4041 and use Meeting ID Code 571PP.
4. The Art Contest/Auction is being run by Raksha again (despite her
insistence each year that she'll never do it again -- I think she's addicted
to the darn things B-). No word on other events, but I'm sure those will
pop up later.
5. Guests *INCLUDE* (but are probably not limited to) Susan Blu, Gary Chalk,
David Kaye, Scott McNeil, Doug Parker, Bob Forward, Larry DiTillo, Ron
Friedman (TFTM writer), Andrew Wildman, Simon Furman, and Vince DiCola.
That's all, folks -- tear it apart!

Okay, I guess we pretty much knew there would be 2 again this year. One is
listed as a "Deluxe" for $7 (but I would guess this would be more along the
lines of a "Regular" BW for that price...)
And then the other is listed as a "Mega" for $27... which seems a bit steep for
a true "Mega" (which are usually around $15, which is a $12 increase for the
"exclusivity", compared to the "Deluxe" which is only a $2 increase for a $5
regular, or a $3 decrease if it truly is what would be a $10 "Deluxe". Could
the BC "Mega" be something a bit more than a "Mega", or is its increased price
to make up for the good deal for the "Deluxe"?)
The third option is the "Ultra" which is just both toys, listed for $32, so
you save $2!
Thoughts? Comments? Questions? Dirty Jokes?

Cool, someone is actually reconizing TranFans. Now the only thing lef
to deal with is the senile price of a pepsi or coke. Wonder if the
airline will show tftm as the inflight movie, or will they stick us in a
little room with no seats. Wonder if other Companies will give us
somekind of discounts in the future.

I think you're overanalyzing it a bit. The "Deluxe," "Mega," and
"Ultra" designations refer to the registration levels and not
necessarily the level of the toy. It conveniently worked out that with
two exclusives there are four different combinations of toys. (Neither,
Toy A, Toy B, or Toy A+B) That allowed us to use the same names as the
toy levels for the registration levels. All we've said is that the toys
are two different sizes. You'll just have to wait until June 19 to see
exactly what they are.

I think Arcee is featured because of Susan Blu's scheduled

some game of galactic "chess" with the planets of our solar system. If
you look close, you'll notice Galvy is about to move with the "Earth"
piece. :-)

Considering the regular rate was over $150.00, I see this
as a definite improvement. Also, the mailing noted that up to four
people could be accommodated at this price.

Apparently, the "trip code" doesn't work yet. Immediately upon
reading this post this afternoon, I called United and asked about their
deals. It turns out code 571PP isn't in their system, nor is there any
mention at all of "BotCon" in their records. For anyone intending to
call United, you may want to give it a week or so to make sure they have
the right info.

No fair, Rob- I just pulled this flyer out of the mail and *now*
you want me to tear it apart? ;)
Tengu:<>
I had someone contact me yesterday letting me know the meeting code
wasn't in the computer yet. I called the sales rep today and he said he
would activate it this afternoon. If it still isn't in the computer,
please let me know and I'll look into it.

Not to be picky, Rob, but last year's artwork didn't really have anything
to do with the theme, either. It's just an opportunity to use some cool
new Wildman artwork. It should make more sense when you see its main
intended use later this month.

Who's drawn it?

Eek, why can't BotCon ever be in Stockholm?

Hehe, I hope for a brawl. DiTillio and Forward versus Wildman and Furman.
Which continuity will win, or will they sit down and smoke a peace pipe?
But who are Doug Parker, David Kaye, Gary Chalk and Scott McNeil?

That guy is definitely a party in himself... he'd be worth the price of

They're [the BotCon '98 registration mailers] out already?? Hmm...I
gotta check for that, or do I have to send a message to 3H Productions
to get my registration papers & form? I attended the previous BotCon and
thought they would send attendants the registration materials, since
they, the attendants, are put on the BotCon mailing list, or so I
thought. Allan L. {Weapon X}
