Um... "Jungle Roar" Cheetor? "Power Flight" Waspinator?? Does anyone else
think the guys who worked on the Batman line got to name these? Hoo boy...
ZobTrivia of the Day (7/21): In the show, how many references have there been
to Bumblebee being a "bug"?
Answer for 7/19: BC94: Fort Wayne, IN; 95: Dayton, OH; 96: Chicago, IL; 97:
Rochester, NY; 98: Anaheim, CA; 99: St. Paul, MN.
Personally, I rather like "Mech-Tech Cheetor." I wonder (although I'm
pretty sure they won't) if these new releases will have accessories with
them. "Energon Surge Rhinox" could have some Energon crystals and "Steel
Force Tarantulas" could have some of his equipment from his lab.

Are these the same ones as the repaints shown at Botcon? The names at
the top of the cards for the ones there didn't include those adjectives.

Why complain? This is nothing new. I've been buying Hasbro/Kenner
stuff for the better part of my time on the planet, and it is INCREDIBLY
rare to see stuff on time. Don't blame Star Wars, the delays there
were always pretty bad. Look at a lot of lines-- ALIENS, Predator,
some GI Joes, even other companies like Playmates Toys or Toy Biz.
Items get delayed for months, a year or two, and sometimes even
cancelled near production. Count yer lucky stars they didn't just
abandon Tigerhawk in favor of a new Cheetor repaint.
(And Beast Machines will most likely NOT be ready by Fall, I don't even
think I've heard the line be offered to Hasbro's accounts yet.)

TRANSFORMED!
TRANSFORMERS: BEAST MACHINES
Fox KIDS - September 1999
Optim13922 (Hopes to go to Botcon next year.)
Transformers Rule!
FInal Fantasy VIII is slated for release as well. ::drool::
It's all about the most fundamental holiday of the year; Christmas. I
have a theory. By pushing back the release dates on these toys, Hasbro
insures that there will stock on the store shelves for Christmas. I
seriously doubt that Beast Machines toys will be en masse until after the
holidays. As was the case with the initial Transmetals 2 line. Sure, it
sucks for us. But, the big H is after the almighty dollar. The Christmas
season is a better time to have toys out there than Back-to-School season.
Actually, I read a few weeks ago that sales for the new Star Wars toys
were down from what Hasbro was expecting. I guess they figured the
shelves would always be empty, even though they flooded toy stores.

Is the term "repaint" accurate? Don't they just use different colored
plastic when they pour the molds? Just asking.

You know, this is a semantic argument that gnaws away at my brain every once in
a while. I suppose technically, no Transformer is a "repaint" since they
aren't just given a different paint job, they're actually made from
differently-colored plastic. But just as the term "kitbash" encompasses every
altered figure (even if no parts from model kits were cannibalized), "repaint"
really means a Transformer whose mold was used to produce a new character.
Zobovor... Besides, the term "re-color" sounds, well, stupid...
ZobTrivia of the Day (7/24): In U.S. #80, which Decepticon ran out of the
battle on Klo without a head?
Answer for 7/22: Shockwave, Blaster, and Perceptor all lack consumer-applied

<<Is the term "repaint" accurate? Don't they just use different colored

That's what a toy repaint is.
Depends on the toy line (and the individual toy). Looking at a couple of my
BW repaints, I have to say that some of them appear to use different color
plastic, while others (Tigatron, for example) are pretty clearly different
paint apps.
Regardless, the term is a nice, intuitive one, since it implies (correctly)
that no actual alterations have been made outside of the colors (though
"recolor", which also gets used, might be more "accurate").
