Okay, so I've been thinking what I'd really like to do is resurrect
the old Cartoon Viewing Club idea. Back in the day, we used to select
a specific episode, go watch it, and then write up our thoughts on
it. It was Skyflight's baby, so it was pretty much G1-focused, and we
were somewhat limited back in the day by what Rhino had released to
VHS (they hadn't even released entire seasons to DVD by this point).
The episodes are much more widely available now (not just DVD but
YouTube and such) so we would have a much larger pool of episodes to
choose from now. It wouldn't have to be just G1 episodes, too. We
could potentially select from any series as long as the episode was
available online somewhere.

Is anybody here interested in such an idea? I think that everybody
should get a turn to pick what episode gets reviewed, so that way we
all get a chance to have people watch episodes of our choice. We
wouldn't have to go in any specific order. I would want there to be
as few rules as possible. No required review structure, and only
participate if you feel like it. Nobody has to archive the reviews or
keep track of who's participating and who isn't. If you feel like it,
then jump in. I'm not sure of the frequency... does once a week seem
like too often? I think that only once a month would be far too
infrequent, since we'd go a whole year and only get to look at 12
episodes. We could pick episodes over the weekend, assign a new one
every Monday, and post reviews on Fridays. (Is five days enough time
to watch a single 22-minute episode and write a couple of paragraphs
about it?)

Wow, I was thinking of posting this EXACT idea about two months ago!!! I didn't know it had been done before. Needless to say, I am in. As stupid as it sounds, I really do think once a week is too frequent. With a family and a full time job that requires travel, the time just simply evaporates. I think I have everything on DVD, except for beast machines (need to find that - grr).
How about once every two weeks? Which episode are we watching first?

I'd be in, and be interested in some Japanese episodes. If they are not on Youtube, I'd post them if needed.

I like the concept, but the timetable would likely leave me out. Weekends are likely to be the only window during which I'd be able to watch an episode.

I like the weekly idea, I too would miss some, but when I get a day
off I could watch the previous episodes and read the revciews you all
have and then participate in the current week.

I just had a few days off and watched the whole nickolodeon TMNT, at
least whats out so far. Every month or 2 I just need a cartoon binge,
and this could give me a great excuse.

So what I'm getting from people is that doing an episode every two
weeks would work better for everyone? What if we did new ones on the
1st and 15th of every month—would that give everybody enough time?
Would that be easy to remember?

As for which episode we do first, how about "The Golden Lagoon" from
G1? It's available on DVD, of course, and can also be found here:

Hell yeas!!! One of the greatest episodes ever made. Will you start a new thread, or just keep this one going? Due by the 30th? Do we wait to discuss until the deadline passes?

Speaking only for myself, a once-every-two-weeks timeframe sounds good. I'd watch the episode on the weekend in the middle of that time period, giving me the better part of the following week to collect my thoughts in written form (probably cross-posted to my blog with pictures or some such).

My two cents,

I'd say post your review on the first of the month, if practical. I
was thinking that out of the people who post a review, I would
randomly draw a name and that person could pick the next episode we
do.
