I got KOs of Sunstreaker and Wheeljack today. Interestingly, Wheeljack's
profile says his function is "Mechanical Engineerp". This is the first
time I've seen one of these with a really obvious typo on the package.
Otherwise, Wheeljack's package is in iffy shape. The toy is off the
cardboard package inside the box (I've had this before with the KOs. The
glue isn't strong enough to keep them attached all the time. The
original toys largely used styrofoam and didn't have this problem).
Also, Wheeljack's window is loose (again, bad glue). I'm not too
bothered by it though. I just wanted some toys to fill in this hole in
my collection (I've got reissues of just about all of the original line
now).

To clarify this--I meant the *package* window is loose, not the toy's.

I think I saw some other similar things before. Something to do with
Grimlock's faction or something? If I'm not mistaken, these things are
also done 'intentionally' so as to make sure a discerning buyer isn't
buying something fake by mistake--or that a seller isn't trying to
pass it off as original when it clearly isn't.

As long as they are not trying to pass them off as genuine and hide
the fact that they're k.o, those little flaws arent as bad. However,
still, you spend good money on something, you deserve to get a quality
prodcut. As long as the toy itslef is decent for the money, thats
great. However, you still deserve not to lose the missles through an
opening in cheap packaging.

I had some Dinobot KOs with lost weapons. Sludge had no sword, for
example (I tracked down a real one and now he has one). I think somebody
else was missing a missile gun too. Then, there's toys like KO Mirage
which had all their stuff properly. I opened both now and they have all
their stuff. Wheeljack's stuff was in a resealable bag though, which
I've never seen on these before and makes me wonder if someone had
opened this toy before (the tape on the ends looked good, but...)

Wheeljack's right fist and his right car doors is a bit loose (for
something that should be new). The other side is a bit tight by
comparison. I did manage to transform him okay... kind of middle of the
road as these toys go. Haven't opened Sunstreaker all the way yet...

Also, his missile launchers work just fine. I've found previous KOs to
be hit and miss in this department.

I bought the highly quality set of 5 dinobots. there were some issues
regarding the loose glue on the inner cardborad/plastic bubble.

I'm very interested in these guys but I'm concerned about the
quality. Are they about what you'd expect for being unlicensed
versions, or are they on par with the official toys? Do they have the
die-cast metal parts? Do they have stickers and/or rub symbols?
(I'll probably get them regardless, but I'd at least like to know what
to expect.)

I don't own them, but from what I've read, they're nearly on part with
an official release if not entirely so--just from the above comments,
I'm seeing "One fist and door is kinda loose," which is different from
how most knockoff toys go. They're really trying with these, I think.
And from what I've seen, they do include die-cast metal, stickers and
probably rubsigns (Can't be sure on the last one, though).

Wheeljack has all his stickers (no rub symbol though). He's decent as
the KOs go, about middle of the road in my estimate. The best I've seen
was stuff like red Mirage and Metrotitan (excellent shape) and the worst
being Dinobot Swoop (terrible quality. He can't even stand up straight!)
This one has a couple of loose parts and a couple of corresponding tight
ones (which suggest something's not quite balanced right somewhere). His
missile launchers do work. The box was kinda iffy too, with the window
plastic being loose. And yes, he has die-cast metal too.
As far as Sunstreaker goes... the box was in perfect shape with nothing
loose. The toy also has die-cast metal, also has no rub sign but all his
stickers are included (as well as accessories). He transformed a bit
better then Wheeljack. His arms were folded quite tight in car mode and
I was worried I might force them and snap them off when I changed him to
robot mode but I managed to do it okay. His arm launchers also work
fine. All in all, I would say Sunstreaker is an improvement over
Wheeljack (I'd rank him among the best of these KOs actually).

Hope that helps...
t.k.

When you say decent, do you mean of this set of knock offs, or of
knock offs in general. Are they dramatically better quality than the
Easter Basket Superion, for instance?

We've had some real Transformers that cannot even stand up straight,
or that have other manufacturing issues where the designs and molds
demand higher tolerances than the manufacturing can provide.

How do they compare to... Animated Waspinator (the popping off limbs
is a nice homage to the Beast Wars character, though), Universe 2.0
Galvatron, or Universe 2.0 Onslaught (and his leg that just won't
quite peg together and stay that way)?

Or Reissue Jazz and the back windows that won't stay up?

I wouldnt mind getting them for the harder to find/harder to justify
price guys, like Metrotitan and such. Or even oddities like red
Mirage. As long as the qiality is good, I'd be happy. I bought a great
k.o of Double Dealer a few years ago at BotCon that's pretty damn
awesome (just needs a repo sticker set). K.O toys like that I'm all
over.

I don't have the Superion so I'm not sure how he is (I've heard not
very good). As these KOs go and knock-offs in general, he's a decent
toy. He could be better (I suppose I could've gotten a bad one, but
it's impossible to say without buying another one--and I'm not doing
that). He looks like Wheeljack and is an adequate representation of a
G1 toy. Would an official Takara reissue likely be made better? Yes.
Will this toy fall apart in your hands? Not likely.

So far the parts are all staying on okay. The plastic is decent
quality. Again, an official toy would likely be better but it's not so
cheap that it's brittle either (I've had one or two really bad KOs I
got elsewhere that were like that).

Maybe on yours!

> Or Reissue Jazz and the back windows that won't stay up?

I think that was a moulding problem, not tolerances or quality.
