WHAT CONTINUITY??? :) =O
no, seriously... I have only seen improvements so far!
at least Im confident we'll have more continuity than the first cartoon...
>Since when do Transformers eat food?
since G1! in the original cartoon, they needed fuel... as well as energon, and
that's the same as food for us...
>Why would Optimus Prime change his name?
he wouldn't and didn't... Op Primal is someone else... it's kinda like you're
confusing a kid today named George Washington with the First George W...
>How the hell is Megatron Back alive?
he isn't, as far as I know... see Op Primal point...
I like to think they adopted these names as nicknames in a sort of homage...
>Why did the decepticons and autobots change there names? What happened to
their insignias?
this we haven't Really found out why... maybe soon....
>And Dinobot, how dare that guy call himself Dinobot! If Grimlock was there
he would tear that guy to pieces!
whatever
>What's next a transformer named Aerialbot?
doubtful... but I wouldn't be totally amazed, the names on BW are the only
thing that irks me about it... but I can cope, as you should learn to :)
>Beast Wars is a sham! It is not Transformers!! They might as well call it
>GO-BOTS!!!
PREACH ON BROTHER! :P
>You guys have been tricked. Would you watch it if it didn't
>have transformers attached to it's title?
oooooo those tricky Hasbro/Kenner people!!! They go and produce a great toy
line with great robot and alt forms and poseability ten times better than the
G1 toys... and they have the NERVE to call it Transformers...
I watch Reboot, and its *very* good. If I had no idea what the hell
transformers even are (or BWs), I'd still watch it, because the team doing it
knows what their doing... and thats rare in cartoons today.
you seem to be venting a lot of hostility... is this really that big of a deal
to you? wow.
Ah, the foolish ramblings of the uninformed. Opty and Megs are NOT the
same character. NOT the same. NOT. The happened to have the same
names. Deal.

>You guys actually like Beast Wars?
In a word, yeah. What's not to like? There are some flaws in the storyline,
yes; thus far they've been minor. The ones in the original series were
pretty severe. The only major complaints that can are universally supported
are:
Disdain for poor tec specs
preference for mech-style linear appearance
Dislike of names
Besides these, there's not much reason not to like them. Lack of metal? I'll
take better posability, durability, and SIZE over metal anyday. The smaller
"Transformers" on the logo? Minor detail. Give me one GOOD reason I should
dislike BW, and I will.
>You don't have a problem with them totally scrapping the Transformer
>continuity?
I'm having difficulty not lauging at this. As much as I LOVE the original
TransFormers, "TransFormers Continuity" isn't a very applicable term. First
off, there was too much incontinuity (Constructicon origin*3, etc.) to begin
with. Second, there are at least 3 distinct continuities for the original
G1 TFs: Toy, Comic, and Cartoon.
Having said this, how has Beast Wars scrapped the Transformer continuity?
They're a group of Cybertronians who landed on a strange planet and used
their technology to create alternate modes that protect them from the
hazards of this alien world. (Hmmm...sounds familiar...) Heck, STARSCREAM
has appeared in the cartoon!
>Since when do Transformers eat food?
Since they incorporated organics into their structure. If you hadn't
noticed, the BWTFs aren't just robots that turn into robotic animals; they
use organic technology to create a fleshy shell. Would transforming into
a robotic cheetah alter the effects of energon on the robotic body? NO....
>Why would Optimus Prime change his name?
Optimus Prime? What's he got to do with anything? Oh, you must mean
Optimus Primal. He's not the same character, by the way. He just has a
similar name. Probably took the name in honor of the great Autobot leader.
We aren't ecstatic about the choice of name, but it's not nearly enough
reason to dismiss BW. Besides, haven't you ever seen two guys named
Joe? What's the different? Oh, I guess Primal would be "Joel."
>How the hell is Megatron Back alive?
see above. Not the same guy.
>Why did the decepticons and autobots change there names?
Well, they didn't. These are the Maximals and Predacons. Different
groups. Autobots and Decepticons still exist. (See "The Web.) They're
just two different factions on Cybertron.
>What happened to their insignias?
Nothing. See above.
>And Dinobot, how dare that guy call himself Dinobot! If Grimlock was there
>he would tear that guy to pieces!
Once again, the name isn't the ideal, but it's a cool toy and a good character.
You're focusing on semantics; we've been through all that and look at the
actual content. The name is likely Hasbro/Kenner protecting their copyright;
would you rather some other company name a crappy toy Dinobot? (I can see it
now..."We need Dinobot power...now!" *shudder*)
>What's next a transformer named Aerialbot?
Once again, you don't seem to get it.
>Beast Wars is a sham! It is not Transformers!! They might as well call it
>GO-BOTS!!!
You've got some explaining to do, son.
Why should they call it Go-Bots? After all, they're not. B'sides, Hasbro
bought them out anyway.
"It is not Transformers!!"? How is it not TransFormers?
Lessee, transforming robots from Cybertron. Check.
Land on an alien planet and assume new alternative modes. Check.
Two factions in a fight to the finish. Double check.
Transforming toys made by Hasbro. Check.
not to mention:
TRANSFORMERS in the show and on the packaging.
STARSCREAM in the cartoon.
Constant reference to the original series
WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? Give a logical, fact-based argument that Beast Wars
isn't TransFormers. I'd bet my last energon cube you fall flat on your face;
the facts don't allow it.
>You guys have been tricked. Would you watch it if it didn't have transformers
>attached to it's title?
Tricked by *WHOM?* By the people at Kenner for saving the TransFormers toy
line from untimely death? By Mainframe/Alliance, who put personality behind
the fine toys and created a story that threatens to far surpass the original in
complexity and depth? Once again, you've got some explaining to do.
I'm not against you. I'd be behind you if anything you'd said had made since.
All you indicated that wasn't immediately dispensable was that you didn't like
the names. No argument here. I've already come up with other names for my BW
toys. But they're excellent toys. Probably one of the top 2 lines available
today. And the cartoon displays EXCELLENT potential. Much more realistic
depiction of a war, more original characterization, and incredible animation &
graphics. Once again, tell me why I *shouldn't* like BW.
Reverting back to beast mode...wonder if he even understood...

Ever hear of energon? Any fuel for a living being counts as food,
therefore the original TFs eat food [energon], just like the BW TFs do
[apples, in Rattrap's case]. Does _what_ they eat really matter?

Well actually yes I do like beastwars. I won't go into a line by line
answer to your complaints. What I will say is many people who don't like
beastwars simply have not given it a chance. I have heard from some people
after veiwing the first couple episodes or buying the toys that they too
find some aspect of beastwars to like. Two of your points revolve around
the names and the consumption of food by tfs. First the names are a
problem. It irks me to have subgroups like the insecticons and dinobots
used as names for characters but some of the names like Turantulus and
Rattrap I actually like. The consumption of food by transformers is not an
entirely new thing. The insecticons gained energy from raw materials.
These new transformers have organic shells they may need nutrients of
organic matter. The other thing I would point out is only two transformers
were shown consuming food. Ratrap and turantulus may have simply aquired
the abilities of the insecticons to utilize raw materials into energy. My
main point is GIVE BEAST WARS A CHANCE it is early in the season and
already we have seen that lovely decepticon symbol on starscream( I never
thought I would be happy to see a decepticon:) ) in cheetors dream and a
vey nice looking cybertron. I think this with the other refrences to G1
and alliance attempts at contacting Chris latta would show that they are
paying we old transfans some heed.

Which continuity? I can explain damn near anything, but linking the G1
cartoon, comics, tech specs, and Japanese cartoons is even beyond my
talents. Oh, and no one's scrapped any continuity. Feel free to name an
example.
: Since when do Transformers eat food?
Since they have organic shells to maintain. I assume that internal repair
systems find it easier to repair organics with organic materials.
: Why would Optimus Prime change his name?
He didn't. These are all new characters. That should be your Beast Wars

He isn't. These are all new characters. That should be your Beast Wars

They didn't. These are all new characters. That should be your Beast Wars

They're there. You have to look closely. Rhinox's temples, Primal's
forehead, Megatron's forehead... they're there.
: And Dinobot, how dare that guy call himself Dinobot!
Dinobot's strongly into personal honor. Maybe he decided to honor the
mighty Dinobots by using their name?
: If Grimlock was there he would tear that guy to pieces!
Maybe. Big Grim might think that it's cool, though.
: What's next a transformer named Aerialbot?
Doubtful. I really doubt that there would be a Beast Warrior named
Aerialbot, anyway.
: Beast Wars is a sham!
No, it's not. I saw it. It's real.
: It is not Transformers!!
Yes, it is. It says so right beneath the words 'Beast Wars'. Weren't you
paying attention.
: They might as well call it GO-BOTS!!!
No, I don't think so. Show me ONE Go-Bots episode that comes anywhere
near one of the Beast Wars episodes. I didn't think so.
: You guys have been tricked.
No, I haven't. I'm watching of my own volition. Been looking forward to
it for months, and the show stood up to my expectations. No trick, all treat.
: Would you watch it if it didn't have transformers attached to it's title?
I probably wouldn't have heard about it nearly as early. Had someone
mentioned the computer animation, though, I would've been there. If, by
some chance, I'd seen the first episode, I would've been just as
impressed as I am now.

Megatron is not the hell back alive (was that grammatically
correct?). This Megatron is a new Megatron who took on the name to honor

The Decepticons and Autobots changed NOTHING. The Maximals and

I wouldn't go into such excessive lengths, Arthur, but I think you've captured the essence of my belief of Beast Wars as well.

How did they? They still come from Cybertron, they still
transform, and they still fuel themselves with Energon.
Before you go off half-cocked yelling about how Energon is
now dangerous, think about this; have you seen anyone
running out of fuel? No. They're fully energized, all the
time.
Since when do
> Transformers eat food?
Since they acquired fleshly shells which survive on protein.
Would *you* like a swig of Energon?
Why would Optimus Prime change his name? How
> the hell is Megatron Back alive? Why did the decepticons and autobots

Dude! Read the FAQ, for gods' sakes! Optimus Primal, as
anyone who's seen the show would know, is *NOT* Optimus
Prime. Megatron, similarly, is *NOT* Megatron... well, he
is, but in name only. They've taken the names and the power
that comes behind them. Remember, Lon Chaney (The 'man of a
thousand faces')'s son got no work in the movies
whatsoever... until he changed his name to Lon Chaney Jr.
What happened to their insignias?
Different factions, different insignias. Did you ever see
Quintessons wearing Decepticon insignias?
And Dinobot, how

No... actually, he'd short out from energon overload. But
he'd probably kick Dinobot around a little before he did so,
true.

Energon, come from Cybertron, and are divided into

gave him witty enough lines.

What I mean is, when did it become MORE than just fun. When did being
able to go to the store and BUY toys become RIGHT to do. When did they
stop being A toy, and become part of a valuable collection. And finally
when did they take up actual display space, rather than hidden away in
show boxes under the bed?
Just thinking about my younger years, remembering a time when I put my
toys away. Remembering how they used to reside on a shelf in action
poses, playing with then from time to time, and then were transferred to a
box under my bed, where they would come out for another war once and a
while. And how since rediscovering the TF's they have infested my room,

shelf full of this, and a table of that. I dont feel the peer pressure of
telling someone "Yes I collect Transformers" anymore. I may get some

I think that I finally JUSTIFIED "Collecting" Transformers after it was

Oh, well it was the 'right' thing to do when I first started scrapping
together money for toys back in grade school (7th grade). I didn't get
an allowance etc., so that made being able to buy the toys that much
'more' special.
> When did they

Hrm, about the time I ended up with a Full Set of Protectobots,

Whenever there's been a clean space they have been on display, however
I do tend to keep my 'original' G1's in a safe container (worth too
much to me).

I'm not so much in it for the money, although I have held a few auctions/sales
etc., I collect because I love transforming/mech toys and shows of any
type (well, except for Power Rangers, DynaMan was barely passable, but PR,
ugh, shudder). Starting mid way through the G2 line I began getting extra
figures so that I could keep them in their 'mint' condition. I guess this
is where some would say I 'really' began collecting (as opposed to buying
them just for display?). Heh, I've just recently realized that I don't have
any time to run all over the city for toys like I used to, but I still collect
whenever I do get any time.
It's good to see someone else's experiences with collecting, now I know I'm
not the only one who has a cubicle full of Transformers!

back and a display case in the front, holding everything from Starwars to
Godzilla) and Scott invited me to step inside. (not a normal customer
thing) and I went to work on his TF shelf. I BS with him for awhile, and
he went to get a sandwitch. Then this KID, whom I only vaguely noticed
came up to me and said :"You like Transformers hu?"
I said "Yea, alittle". So he proudly said "WELL! I have over 400 TF's,
ask me anything". I said "OH really, well there is so much I have to
ask." I preceded to just go back to the shelf, and look at all the
absolute CRAP with a BACKLESS and tireless HotRod, a bainted Metroplex, a
chewed up Scourge, and a Headmaster with the head glued in place, ALL with
price tage for no less than $20 and no more than $40! ! ! With this, and
being that this KID was "Incharge" of all the TF transactions
I had to play with him tad...
So I said "Do you have any BumbleJumpers?" He said "whats that?" "Oh its
a nice little car, that is like Bumblebee, but very different" He said
"wait isnt that the yellow guy" I replyed "yes, he is also Blue and or
Red" "Oh" Then I quizzed him on action masters, hopeing to find some
things for me to buy, and he had no clue.
Then he picked up the latest issue of AFN&TR, and mentioned BotCon.."Oh I
was there, it was a lot of FUN, infact that article mentions me a little"
Shuffled around and found the little blirp that mentions "Custom
Actionmasters" and then explained what I do. Then, got into Bot Con 97
(he's hooked) and what is going on. The he boasts that he has almost all
the old series on tape...dubbed from the SciFi channel
I said "Well I hate to tell you this, but most of those eps have about 3
mins cut out"
Then he turned to the comics, and said he has most of them. "Im missing
3, and only have about 100 UK's" he says "Isnt that the same as what we
have?" "Oh no no no no! They had about 300+ comics, with some completely
different stories!"
I had to take off for work, leaving this KID with his mouth on the floor,
and the knowledge that since HE now works with Scott (an Idea I had
presented him with some time ago, since the mas has even less of a clue)
he will get first shot at anything and everything TF related...so im out
of luck there.
Yuo call this KID THE Transformer collector of NJ? Weet, you've got

Next time you see this guy, Weet (assuming you're not too soured on
the current deal between him and this vendor), try quizzing him on the
Diaclones and Japanese TFs. :-)
BTW, if the stock you mentioned is typical for this dealer, it doesn't
sound like the kid's first-pick deal is making you miss much. Unless,
of course, the dreck you mentioned is all that was left after the kid
got the good stuff...

It's always been "right" to do, as far as I was concerned, though there were
others in the household that disagreed. 'Course I did it anyway....
When did they
>stop being A toy, and become part of a valuable collection.
That's a better question. I guess I'd rephrase that as "When did you start
buying things solely because they were Transformer items, rather than because
you liked a particular character?" Lots of collectors never get to that phase
-- they'll buy only the toys of characters that are especially appealing to
them, and maybe occasionally a toy just because it looks so great, regardless
of the character. And I can certainly understand that. I started out as a
"selective buyer" too -- originally my goal was to just have all of the
original first-season Decepticons as toys. But as I recall, Skywarp and Rumble
were the ones that eluded me the longest, and while I was scouring the garage
sales and clearance aisles for them, I'd pick up other stuff just out of sheer
frustration ... at first still sticking strictly to Decepticons, eventually
including the older Autobots as well ... and gradually, very gradually, I found
that I wanted *all* of the toys. And while I was tracking down those missing
toys, I started getting into the "artifacts" in the same way -- stuff that I
used to laugh at for looking silly, eventally became the last remnants of TF
items I could find in the stores, and I started buying it since there was
nothing else TF-related to be had. Now I've come to really love the artifacts,
almost as much (in some cases more) than the toys themselves.
I guess different toys have different "statuses" for me. Some of them
really are the characters that I love best, and those obviously mean the most
to me -- while others just look neat, without necessarily being a character
that appeals to me ... and then there are the toys that just look flat-out
stupid (Quickswitch, anyone? Human-looking Pretenders?), but are still part of
"the collection," which would be incomplete without them.
And finally
>when did they take up actual display space, rather than hidden away in
>show boxes under the bed?
When I didn't have that many, I was able to stand them on spare shelf-space in
my room. As the collection grew, some of them of necessity ended up in boxes
under the bed, in the closet, and finally in large boxes set in the middle of
my room and used as a table. For no other reason than not having room to put
them all out. Finally when I moved into an apartment of my own, I had room to
display most of them on bookshelves. So it wasn't so much a change in attitude
as a change in available space. And a good thing, too. It's almost criminal
to stash away a perfectly good Fort Max in a closet....

Is this a joke? Please, please, please let this be a joke.
: Ever hear of energon? Any fuel for a living being counts as food,
: therefore the original TFs eat food [energon], just like the BW TFs do
: [apples, in Rattrap's case]. Does _what_ they eat really matter?
And truly enough, because of the "organic" parts of themselves. Carbon
based matter consumed to maintain it would be necessary to keep the
organic stuff alive.
: > Why would Optimus Prime change his name? How
: > the hell is Megatron Back alive?
: Optimus Primal _IS_ _NOT_ Optimus Prime!!!! (_How_ many times has this
: been said on a.t.t. before?!?!) BW Megatron is NOT the original Megatron!
Weeellll....actually Op Primals head does look amazingly like the head of
geesh every incarnation of Op Prime...and the same goes for
Megatron...the rear shot matter should be taken up with DreadWing! :D:D:D
: > Why did the decepticons and autobots
: > change there names? What happened to their insignias? And Dinobot, how
: > dare that guy call himself Dinobot!
: Yeah, his name is rather lame, but what does that matter, if his character
: is cool?
Yes, it is...to me it shows the same against-the-wall situation the
people who named some of the G2 Tf's with...good names usually either
come is a flash of insight or brain-bashing fits! :)
: > If Grimlock was there he would tear
: > that guy to pieces! What's next a transformer named Aerialbot? Beast
: > Wars is a sham! It is not Transformers!!
: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
: Yes it is.
Yes, sadly they have scrapped everything we used to know and love but
happily they are still Transformers, the still Transform (even BW is
better than the ActionMasters)
: > They might as well call it
: > GO-BOTS!!! You guys have been tricked. Would you watch it if it didn't
: > have transformers attached to it's title?
Actually, they do have some G2 vehicles given the group title Gobots...go
figure! :)
: Yup, 'cause it's a good show with decent plots, interesting characters, and
: spectacular computer animation.

Q: How many Throttlebots does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: All of them. When was the last time you saw a Throttlebot by himself?
a. Mention of Cybertron & Great Wars (or rather A Great War) in BW Part One
b. The use of the word "Prime" by Optimus Primal. It's not just an accident
that the leader of the Maximals keeps using a word that was originally associated with
Autobot leaders (I don't care to get into the 'Was it Optimus or Rodimus that he took
the word from' debate).
c. Although not said in the series (although hinted at in "The Web"), the Maximals and
Predacons are Cybertronians [Fill in your definition of a Cybertronian here]. The
writers have stated that The Maximals and Predacons are the descendents of the Autobots
and Decepticons.
d. The appearance of Cybertron AND Starscream (with the Decepticon symbol PROMINANTLY
displayed) in "The Web".
e. The upcoming episode "Posession" will feature Starscream (in one form or another,
not necesarily his jet/robot 'classic' form). This particular episode has been written
and (I believe) already animated or in the process of being animated.
f. It hasn't been shown yet (or even animated for that matter), but the season finale
SHOULD (if it hasn't changed since I last heard about it) create the ultimate link to
past continuities. I use a plural there because the writers have hinted they may want
to throw in some story elements from the comic book series as well. As to exactly WHICH
elements I am unsure. Let's just say the season finale ought to be a big finish (again,
if nothing changes). :)
*Only* $1250.00??? I'd feel horrible if I'd have to pay that little,
it'd be cheating you. I'll bid $10,000,000 if I'll bid a penny. ;) But
seriously, sir or madam- you should re-check your pricing on those TFs!

Well, I know. But what I was referring to was the detail that we
fans pick things up with. Although they haven't stated exactly which
details, the writers (who do monitor a.t.t.) have noticed that the fans
have picked up a LOT of things they meant to leave 'vague' to allow for
more story possibilities.

Of course not! If they did, that would mean that writers want to have
