Megatron--Luger handgun
Optimus Prime--Dragon Wagon
Starscream--Focke-Wulfe fighter plane
Ironhide--Armoured personnel carrier
Thundercracker, Skywarp--Japanese fighters
Aerialbots--Allied fighters
Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Laserbeak--Grenades (Dummy grenades of course,
they don't really blow up in their alt modes)
Bumblebee--Motorcycle with sidecar
Soundwave--Field communications unit
Grimlock--WWI (yes, that's FIRST world war) era tank--or at least in
one concept sketch. It looks like he might've been redone into
another kind of tank.
Shockwave--Rail mounted artillery cannon
Hound--I presume a jeep....
The Autobots are based on Allied equipment; the Decepticons, on Axis.
There was a great set of sketches in a magazine; either Wizard or
Toyfare, I think. Unfortunately, in some cases the art is so dark
that it's hard to see the intricacies of the transformations, which
are done so that they would be possible to really work were the
sketches used as models for toys. Many of these sketches are included
in the now-available graphic novel of this series, and in this case I
would recommend the GN because the sketches really are something great
to see.
On to issue #5: Trenches
Snake Eyes rescues Storm Shadow from the shark and forgives Snake Eyes
(apparently SS is responsible for the wound that took SE's voice long
ago). Ravage attacks again, and Snake Eyes stabs him, terminating him
(poor kitty!)
Baroness and Mindbender torture Flint. Beach Head defeats Frenzy by
cutting open an airplane gas tank and getting Grunt to fire on it,
causing an explosion. Frenzy calls humans "meat" (nice insult...)
Beach Head (referring to airplane) "Hey Gear boy, this your sister
over here?"
Lady Jaye outfoxes Wild Weasel with an airbatic maneuver; Superion
shows up.
Cobra Commander and Major Bludd drag the islands' population to the
shore in chains as a line of defense against the Joes and Autobots.
For some reason Megatron doesn't get this idea--he's telling CC that
the population will never fight for Cobra and then CC tells him that
he wants them as a line of defense. (Must not be a decepticon battle
tactic....?)
Scarlett & Snake Eyes. Awww....angst.
Prime is reluctant to help the Joes any more. As Prowl points out,
"For all we know, you're the invaders." Prime: "We don't fight
unless we have no choice." Hound meanwhile is keen to fight with his
new friends.
But then the Autobots see the helpless people enslaved and orders the
attack! (Maybe Megatron just knows how Prime thinks).
Shockwave looks truly terrifying...
The Joes wonder if Superion could protect the captives long enough for
them to be moved into a trench where they would be safer--then
Shockwave's salvo strikes Superion.
