At first I was somewhat embarrassed at the idea of watching what I
thought was a kiddie movie, but after reading rave reviews, I went to
see the Lego Movie 3D and had a blast!

In an interview with the directors, they said that they tried to get
inside the imagination of an eight-year-old boy, and they succeeded.
The movie is disjointed at times, full of action and humorous references
that kids might miss but adults my age get (apparently a re-education
scene from "A Clockwork Orange" was cut).

The story is about Emmet, a perfectly average construction worker who
always follows the Instructions, who winds up involves in a Matrix-esque
conspiracy after he accidentally stumbles upon the Piece of Resistance,
which winds up stuck on his back.

A pretty woman named Wyldstyle (no, she's not a DJ) and her fellow
Master Builders believe he is The Special foretold by prophecy, and the
only person who can save them from evil President Business, who hates
creativity and is planning to use the a weapon called the "kragle" (a
tube of Krazy Glue) to glue the Lego universe together and freeze
everything in his vision of perfection for eternity, and only the Piece
of Resistance can defeat the kragle.

Wyldstyle is skeptical that Emmet is really The Special because he is
not a Master Builder, evidenced by her belief that he has no
imagination. The wise sage Vestuvius explains that Master Builders
spend years clearing their minds to see the higher reality, and Emmet's
mind is so empty that he can be The Special from the prophecy.

I won't spoil it with any more details, but the movie is one big
colorful roller-coaster ride and definitely worth seeing and will make
you feel like a kid again.
