I wanted some feedback from people on the idea of either:
- expand alt.toys.lego to include the other construction type toys eg
Erector sets, K'NEX (a new? product, for which I will post a copy of
a brochure, once I get it) Flexiblocks, etc. ie making it something
like alt.toys.construction(?)...
- go for a "real" hierarchy eg rec.toys.construction(?) which would inc.
the above... (there isn't even a rec.toys hierarchy yet; about time!)
I am posting this here, as this would (obviously?) impact alt.toys.lego
more than anything... Any interest in even (re)discussing this?

Well I think Lego fills a particular socio-economic niche. There is an
associated culture and plenty of associated technical information that
can be shared and has been shared.
I am concerned about these discussions and flows of information being
diluted. Hell, it's tough enough keeping up with people's information
about Technic Lego, let alone numerous other construction types.
Further more if someone comes to group and talks Lego someone here will
be interested far more often than not. If someone talk a differing
brand of contruction media there could be an embarrashing silence.
Beside who wants possibly inevitable Lego vs. another brand arguments
to break out. If they are persued with half the vigour of emacs vs.
vi arguments we will be in big trouble.
Prehaps alt.toy.construction(.misc?) ought to be created.
Any way I'm planning to buy 8022 myself. Shame I probably will not
be able to find a sale. Cheapest I can find so far is 8 quid.
Yours constructively,

Real good points, and taken to the heart... :-) See other public
article from me about alternative proposal...

BTW, with the exchange rate at .65223, your $UK8 price on the 8022
makes it a better price there at retail than here at retail ($UK9
or so). A question for you... Do they ever put the LEGO stuff on
sale there in the UK?
There -is- one problem with the 8022; it sells one on the TECHNIC
series -real- quick; just large enough "taste" of the potential of
the series to really get you going on thinking "now, if I had this
extra gear set, and a few more TECHNIC style bricks..." thoughts.
I am already thinking of picking up a second one before the sale ends
tomorrow on Saturday 18 SEP 93... *sigh* :-)
