I'm thinking of darkening the beard of an episode 4 obi wan and a Count
Duuko, then putting turbans on them and calling them taliban. What would
you do? I was thinking of brushing on a dark colored acrylic, then
wiping with a rag or sponge to take the paint off the high spots to give
it a graying look. Does anyone have a better suggestion?

Just spoke with the resident crafts/painting expert (aka the wife) and she
says to paint it a flat black with acrylics, then dry brushing with gray,
then using a gray chalk to get the finer areas, followed by a clear coat.

IN my experience, straight-from-the-bottle acrylics don't blend or
dry-brush well. Poke around the corners of the craft-store acrylic
paint rack though, and you'll find some special additives that will
help. There's an agent (forget what it's called) that's designed to
"float" the pigment and make dry brush and blending techniques work
better.
