Ok most of you know who I am. Some of you now know that I do not
collect or sell Vintage GI Joe anymore. I have officially left the
Trenches and officially left the hobby. Not too long ago I wanted to
tell all of you what happened to me but I didn't because I feared what
some of you may have said due to my experiences in this hobby. I'll
get to that later.. Anyway some of you knew that my Dad died from a
long bout with Cancer. It was very hard for me just like it would be
hard for any of you. I never asked for a sign but some months after
his death I asked for one. I did in fact get what I believe is a sign.
I had been looking hard for a vintage SOTW German grenade for months.
I never told anyone I was looking for this piece because I thought
getting it was futile. I searched around eBay but I never found one in
the price range I wanted to pay and it was the only piece i needed to
complete this German. A few days after I asked for a sign I got an
Eight Ropes Of Danger Set in a repro box. I wanted this set because I
was going to redo the graphics on the box and put it in my collection
of Repro boxes that I sold. While I was taking the box apart stuck
between the window and the cardboard was a mint German Grenade. So
what is the possibilites of something like this happening? You guys
would know how hard it is to get one..not real expensive but they
don't pop up all the time. What is the probability of that happening?
In a box with equipment that doesn't even belong to the set I bought?
Also the seperation of years between the two sets. The reason I didn't
tell anyone before is because I felt I was going to be chastised by
some for not letting the owner know what I found and not paying for
it. Of course I know most of you would agree and would be true to
yourself and say that it was a nice bonus to find an extra piece but
if you have been around the game as long as I have some think the
other way and I just didn't want to hear that noise. This of course
has nothing to do with why I left the hobby. I just really wanted to
share that and since I am not in the hobby anymore it doesn't matter
if I hear the noise from some or not.

So what are the odds of getting the only piece you need to complete a
set from a totally different unrelated set that are years apart that
you purchased on eBay from someone who doesn't collect GI Joe?

Thought you guys might want to ponder this... Take care, Roy

Wow. You're blowing my mind, man! HA Seriously, that is an amazing
story. I don't really know what to think. Joe Karma? Message from the
beyond maybe? Who can say?

One Step Beyond...

What I really think is cool is that the events that happened in order
for it to be a sign could very well have transpired months or years
before your father's passing. That would mean that once we get into
the spirit world time doesn't pose a constraint on us. We are free to
travel through time.

The guy who put the box together is probably wondering where the heck
that German Grenade went...

Even though I don't collect anymore I am keeping this set. I mean how
can i sell it?

I have received more signs but they aren't GI Joe related.

The one real spooky one was concerning my Mom. Now my Son never ever
talked about his late Grandmother and to tell you the truth we never
really spoke much about her to him. You don't want to talk about your
dead relatives and freak out 8-9 year old kids..lol Anyway at about
8-9 years old he came up to me out of the blue and asked to look at
pictures of her. I mean this was really out of the blue and I was
shocked but pleasantly surprised that he did. So I went downstairs dug
up the old photo album and showed him. He never saw the pictures
before or knew the album existed. The next day while I was talking to
my sister in law on the phone she told me that my brother went to her
grave yesterday to leave flowers. I asked why he did that and she told
me that it was her birthday. Now even as I type this I got a
chill..really. My Mom had been dead since 1988 and this was around 5
years ago that my Son asked to see pictures of her. Something he never
did...

This past year in January I had a strange day dream. It was like I was
dreaming but more maybe just thinking about her. Now since she died in
88 and those of us who had parents that died know that you don't think
of them all the time as years pass. The dream consisted of me telling
my Dad that since I had just spent time with him before his passing
that he'd have to wait until I spent time with my Mother since I
haven't seen her in awhile. I said this as I was hugging her and the
hug really felt real...The next day my Aunt who was my Mom sister
posted on Facebook that she died that very day in 1988

Ok last one and more significant than any one of the previous.. The
day after my Mom died a dove appeared on my fence. The fence to the
house we grew up in. Now doves are rarely seen in suburbs of NY but
they are seen from time to time so it is not like they are never seen
but not as much as other birds. The whole family was there to observe
it and thought maybe it was a sign but we just kind of brushed it off
but thought it was cool if it was. The next day we visited my Mom's
grave as you do when they just pass. You go alot at first but then you
go infrequently later on. We get to My Mom's grave and yada yada
yada... Then while we were finishing up My Dad suggested going to my
Grandmothers grave. This was odd because he never did because this was
my Mom's Mother..Really very odd. We get to her grave and we just
froze and looked at each other. There was a dead dove on her
grave..again I get chills while I am writing this...

I have heard lots of people get signs when a loved one passes but to
experience it is really something else..I wish everyone could..

Hey Doug, I would bet that grenade didn't even come from the person
directly. It was stuck in there pretty good. I would bet the guy who
made it accidently made the box with it in there.

Mark, My Dad had a passion for collecting. He collected things all of
his life and is where I guess I started collecting. We had a real
tight bond when it came to collecting. Always talking about that big
score..It would only make sense for him trying to help me out.. This
would have all been brushed off as coincidence if it came in a group
of '60's accessories and I probably wouldn't even had thought of it
twice...The way it came to me is proof positive and that the odds are
overwhelming to say the least that a piece like that could come the
way it did...It just doesn't happen.. In twenty plus years of
collecting not one time did a single solitary piece I needed to
complete a set come in an unrelated set and with accessories that were
seperated by a generation.

I've had strange things like that happen too. My latest was back
in early December. my last blood-kin aunt (well, last blood-relative,
period) died the week of Thanksgiving at the ripe old age of 98. Her
son & husband had died a few years earlier, so it just left me & her.
She had left me a couple of healthy CDs. Being an eBay junkie & with
my various collections in storage or in closets, I had been planning
to look for a bigger house. About 4 years ago, a 3350 sq/ft Dutch
Colonial on 4 acres that a family friend had owned about 30 years ago
had been put up for sale by the third owner. The realtor had an open
house one Sunday afternoon so I went to look, just look, 'cause I knew
the house & had liked it & the yard. By year's end it had been taken
off the market & I presumed sold. After my aunt died, I decided after
the first of this year I'd start looking for a new, bigger place
within or close to my inheritance amount & that was that. I hadn't
been back to this house since nearly 4 years early at the open house.
On a Saturday afternoon, 2 weeks after my aunt was buried I was on my
way back to work that afternoon, & this house is nearby anyway. I was
just about to turn in to work when 'something' told me to drive over &
see if "The Barn" as I call it, happened to be for sale again.
Remember, I hadn't been over there in about 3+ years after it was
taken off the market. Imagine my shock when I drove up & another
realtor had a sign by the driveway!! My first thought was, 'this ain't
right'! It was almost scary feeling. Anyway, I ended up buying the
place, with money left over to make a couple of fixes I wanted & then
some. Most everyone who hears this tale says that 'something' was my
late aunt, looking down upon me, knowing she had left me the money, &
the house was for sale & Iliked it & could afford it. It had been on
the market for less than a month & there were 2 other prospective
buyers in line, 1 was close to getting the down payment. Had I waited
til after the first of this year, it'd most likely have been sold. My
aunt knew how much I loved my toys & models & wanted to be able to
have room to display them all & she saw to it that I didn't miss out.
