I always liked the original except for the final episode. The remake
is hard to follow and worst of all the "Six" as opposed to "Number
Six" has none of the cool detached determination of the Patrick
Mcgooen character. Six just runs around angry and confused all the
time. The original Number Six never betrayed his true feelings since
that would have given the Village a victory over his individuality.
Too much unnecessary romance as well.

You nailed it! The new Prisoner Sucks. I was hoping it would grab me
like the original did... I don't particularly like the new Six. I
don't know that I like that everyone there seems to be a transplant
with a mind wipe. The only mind screw that reminded me of the 60's
version is when Six says that at least I can trust you, you are my
brother. And the guy says, I'm not your brother... I thought that
was just too soon for Six to be giving up and admitting he believed
something in the Village to be reality. But, it was kind of a good
delivery.

I know we are on the same page because you described the orignal
series like I do to folks who have not heard of it. I say 'With the
exception of the last episode, The Prisoner is a GREAT show. Then, it
just gets all 60's weird in that final episode.'

I doubt I'll give this series another effort unless I hear that it has
hit its stride... Then, maybe I'll catch up.

Yep. My DVD recorder failed to record it, and when I sampled some, I was
upset by that development.

This wasn't The Prisoner. It was Jesus vs. Magneto.

The original show stood out because of the style and substance. This one
had neither.

I watched it and didn't care for it that much. At the end they were
trying to explain exactly what was going on and I still didn't get
100% of it.

It wasn't a complete waste of 6 hours, though. It was different, they
took a chance on it and I always encourage that, even if I don't care
for it in the end. If it comes out on DVD or they play a marathon of
it some weekend I may watch it again to see if there's something going
on that I missed the first time, something that changes my opinion on
it.

I don't know if it sucks, but I ain't too happy with it.

I think the idea is to make the audience be as confused as Six. Bad
idea, but at least they're consistent with it.

I'll watch it all but I keep expecting six to wake up in some vr sense
depriving tube, like in the Matrix...

1 Part Star Trek Menagerie
1 Part Never Ending Story
1 Part Conspiracy Theory
1 Part Matrix

Mix well.
Taste.
Do not repeat.

Okay, I watched all four parts this weekend, and I'm confused... Can
someone explain to me what the hell was going on? Maybe my kids were
too disruptive and I missed something...

SPOILER WARNING
(I'm about to discuss it, so don't read further, if you don't want to
know)

If I understood correctly, scientists chick figures out there are
multiple levels of subconsciousness. Using drugs, she taps into this
level, in which all mankind is apparently connected... somehow. Using
this process, people who are troubled are "recruited" into a utopian
society where their inner self becomes a happier inner self,
simultaneously making the conscious part of the person feel happier as
well.

Somehow, this is all monitored from computers... do they all have
implants or something?

This was all just some kind of philanthropic endeavor? Not to wrest
secrets from retired spies or anything?

WTF? Did the Wachowskis write this?
