I would like to share my x-mas miracle with fellow members of the
sandbox.

I don't know if anyone else can relate, but I love to talk "Joe" where
ever
I go, especially in resale shops and antique stores.
Of course, 999 times out of 1000 I just get the standard response "We
rarely see the old GI JOE" or "We have a collector who comes in and gets
all that stuff" or in the places I visit often I get that look, you know,
"Geez, here comes that GI JOE guy" look...

Well, on Friday it paid off!

First, I went to an antiques store in my neighborhood where Joe has been
seen in the past and some workers were keeping an eye open for me. One
lady
indicated that she had several figures and she went home to retrieve
them.

Disappointingly, they were loose 80's 12" figures that I was not
interested in.
I confided in one person that I needed a "success" as I was getting
pretty
discouraged at not finding anything in awhile.

She suggested another antique store several miles away.
I was less than optimistic as I had been there before without any luck at
all... but since I had time I opted to go over there and scout on the
way.

When I arrived at the shop I began to browse...I then was greeted by a
guy
that seemed to know me but whom I did not recognize.
While we were talking, I went into my usual diatribe about looking for
vintage Joes and he started to give me the standard response...

Then something amazing happened. A woman who was browsing in the shop
piped
in and said that she overheard me speaking about GI JOE and informed me
that she and her husband had recently cleared out her husband's mothers
house and had a bag of old "GI JOE stuff"

This, of course, piqued my interest...we talked a bit and she indicated
that they were about to have a garage sale and invited me to come over
and
have a look.

When we arrived at her house we she could not immediately locate the box
of
stuff...my heart sank and I was loosing my confidence when an
enthusiastic
"AH HAH!!!" sounded from the hallway.

She came back to the living room and presented me with a box.
I opened it and low and behold!

4 vintage GI JOES. All painted heads in amazing shape.
A complete and minty 1st edition deep sea diver. A complete action pilot
with the good orange jump suit, a complete action soldier with a nice
field
jacket and a complete marine medic.

She was unsure of what her husband wanted for them so we called him at
work.
He indicated a price of $50 and also informed me of a footlocker with
some
accessories in it that his wife may not have thought to show me.
We quickly located the foot locker and I paid the very kind woman and
raced
home to assess the "TREASURE"
4 figures. No hair rubs, usual splits. 3 of them small footed, slotted
shoulder joes, 3 dog tags and the footlocker....I had not even taken
inventory of that yet....
I opened the footlocker and there were a few average
accessories...canteen,
boots etc...
I lifted the tray and was very happy to pull out a complete, mint MP
uniform, a mint Bazooka with 2 shells, a mint green, camo and navy attack
helmet. A mint 50 cal machine gun, navy attack signal flags and blinker
light, a camo and green tent with all the poles and stakes.
And a handful of other accessories.

All in all, a wonderful Christmas haul. Only one uniform duplication in
the
whole batch. Almost everything in that lot was something I wanted but did
not already have.

I just wanted to share this story to encourage my fellow Joe Heads...

The Joe is out there!!!

Good hunting! Merry Crhistmas!!!
