I haven't done it, I plan to one day on a broken tail Comanche. When I do, I'll be sure to sand it really well, prime it, shoot the
paint and apply a cover coat of matte finish.
That should take the scuffing and roughing pretty well.
Other than hot laquer, I'd say the paint is of your choosing.
