Suspect charged in shooting death of off-duty Detroit officer
DETROIT A suspect in the shooting death of an off-duty police officer
working as a bouncer at a strip club has pleaded NOT guilty to murder.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 37-year-old Michael Allen of
Detroit is charged with first-degree murder, using a gun in a felony and
being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities say they have videotape that shows Allen brandishing a gun
and pointing it at Officer Ken Daniels. Daniels was working as a bouncer
at Sting, a bar in southwest Detroit late Wednesday night.
Police said Daniels helped escort out a group of men who refused to pay
a 100-dollar bar tab. When they were outside, he struggled with one man
while another pulled out a weapon and shot him in the abdomen.
Allen was arraigned this afternoon, and he was ordered held in jail. A
NOT guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
