PIGEON FORGE (WATE) -- A Pigeon Forge police officer shot and killed a man
during an early morning traffic stop Tuesday.
According to police, around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, 20-year-old Jamie Lee Russell
of Nebo, North Carolina, who was driving a blue Cadillac, was pulled over
for speeding. Russell stopped in the parking lot of Bilmar Motor Inn on the
Pigeon Forge Parkway, with two police officers in a cruiser parking behind
him.
According to police, during the stop a man riding in the front passenger
seat grabbed a revolver and started to get out of the car. The officer shot
and killed the man.
The man's body is at UT Medical Center for an autopsy. His name hasn't been
released yet, pending notification of his next of kin.
Police have charged Jamie Lee Russell with possession of marijuana. He's
being held for an arraignment to set bond.
The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative
leave, until the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation completes an
investigation. The officers' names are being withheld until the
investigation is complete.

We are the drug pipeline down this way. Some comes from the coast by the
scenic route since they have cracked down hard on the I-75 and I-40
interstates for many years.
The road down may be easier now with the Cumberland Gap area being chosen
for upgrades and as an alternative scenice route. The plans will take years
but it will be a four lane from Corbin right through here to the Park and
since they will come this way they will also visit Cumberland Gap National
Historic Park.
No one cares.
