Glenrock police officer arrested for rape
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Glenrock police officer accused of raping a woman
more than once has been charged with first-degree sexual assault.
Jim Watters turned himself in to Casper police Friday morning. Bond was
set at $2,500, according to 7th District Attorney Kevin Meenan.
Meenan said additional charges may also be filed in Converse County.
Glenrock Police Chief Mike Colling said Watters has been on the force 12
years. It was a Casper police officer who raised suspicions that Watters
had sexually assaulted a woman, Colling said.
Casper police tried to arrest Watters for questioning Wednesday, but
Watters "hid out in Glenrock," according to Colling.
Meenan declined to comment on the investigation, but did say the case
involved an adult who was assaulted in Glenrock and Casper this month.
Colling said Watters' fellow officers have taken the news hard.
"They're real upset," he said. "You know, it's a real black mark against
law enforcement and they just feel they now have a duty to build the
public trust even though they aren't the ones that are being accused.
"They take it real serious and hope the public understands that you have
a bad apple every once in a while and the other police officers are
good, conscientious officers who will continue to do their job as they
should."
