Save the Ramova Theatre!

Hello everyone.

This month, I co-founded STR - Save The Ramova. We are a community group
made up of residents of the Bridgeport neighborhood and elsewhere who want
to act to preserve the architectural legacy of the Ramova Theatre, located near 35th and Halsted
streets.

We are collecting petition signatures on the streets and at http://savetheramova.com

The Ramova opened in 1929 and is the sister theatre to the beloved Music Box (same architect, same
interior.) It has been in disuse for over twenty years, is currently owned by the City of Chicago and is
the target of plans to raze the interior. We oppose any plans that sacrifice its beautiful
architectural and decorative features. We do not oppose repurposing of the theatre, nor do we advocate
any particular redevelopment proposal. We, along with Preservation Chicago
(http://www.preservationchicago.org) are acting to give voice to the community of citizens concerned
with preserving the rarefied, overlooked beauty of the Ramova.
