Actually I am changing my reply. The question is misleading;
regardless of what writers and books today may lead you to
believe. it is in fact difficult to talk about much of the great
jazz and not have it be related somehow to Lennie Tristano.
Lennie was a very important musician, teacher, and influence.
For example:
Roy Eldridge knew Lennie in Chicago and there was a very close
relationship there.
As I have written before, Bird dug Lennie, played many sessions
with him and was booked to do a gig and even wanted to start a
record company with Lennie because *everyone else was copying
him and he wanted to get into something different and felt that
they could do it together* {Tristano quoting Bird...]
Elvin was the drummer in a trio that LT had with Mingus
[who also studied with Lennie] before he played with Coltrane!
Coltrane cited Bud Powell and Lennie as his two favorites on
piano in an interview in Downbeat.
Max and Roy played sessions with Lennie and recorded with him.
Kenny Clarke was the drummer that Lennie got, along with
Oscar Pettiford, for the session with Lee and Warne in 1955.
Kenny also used to play sessions with Bird at
Lennieąs studio, which has been recorded but is not available
legally...!
Freddie Hubbard called Lennie about doing a session, but Lennie
died before this could happen.
So you see, that Lennie was not a marginal or parallel scene. He
was integral.
===
HI
Cool question.
I've listened to and dug a lot of music in my time. The stuff that I still dig
more than ever after 25 years includes:
My Favorites-
include
Louis Armstrong [esp. pre-'40 or '35]
Pres [esp pre ww2]
Lady Day [esp w/ Pres and pre ww2]
Charlie Christian
Roy Eldridge [tpt + vcl]
Bird, Bud, Fats
Papa Jo, Big Sid, Elvin, Max, Roy Haynes, Kenny Clarke, Shelley Manne
Oscar Pettiford, N.H.O.P., Blanton
Some of Freddie Hubbard
et. al...
To me, Jazz is about improvising, and that is my viewpoint...

Chilengarian is here referring to my post about your cowardice for
bailing on
a thread. It was a victory. You just couldn't cut it, could ya?
By the way, speaking of cowards, Chilengarian is afraid of me. Notice
he
never mentions me by name anymore. He used to all the time, but I
kciked his
ass so badly that he finally quit.

BAAAAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Remember how Chilengarian gloated
about making me "perspire bullets" at the NYC MArathon? What a fucking
idiot! He can't flame anybody for anything he hasn't done cause he's
done it all. What a bozo.

Tiby snow-job number one. That's not his name. His name is Mike
Chilengarian. If you don't know that then that alone is proof that you
don't have a high IQ.

It's not surprising that the only proj's who respond to your posts are
"Al Walker" and the departed dickhead Oj's Fraud, two of the biggest
morons in all of usenet.

Tiby snow-job number two. If Chilengarian actually carries out this
threat, it'll be a first. If you aren't aware that Chilengarian is
forever threatening criminal, civil and physical reprisals that NEVER
come to pass then you're even a bigger fucking idiot than you appear to
be.
The fact that you'd actually take such an asshole seriously already says
plenty about you.

So fucking what? All it proves is pacbell is composed of a bunch of
fucking Nazi assholes. Parody is protected by the Constituion. The
wanton destruction of other people's property in the form of cancelling
their posts is not, however.
Gee, Tiby, funny how you never seem to mention that.

Tiby snow-job number three. Chilengarian CAN'T take any official action
because it would mean having to use his real name, then he'd be exposed
for who he really is: Mike Chilengarian hiding behind the name "al
walker" like the fucking coward that he is.
That's why he didn't get a response, ninny. He never asked for one.
