Auto alignment question.

If have just bought a ETX125 Premier, but are having a problem with the
automatic alignment.

I put it in the home position, against the anticlockwise stop and start the
auto alignment. The telescope levels itself then starts rotating clockwise,
about 2 1/2 times until it hits the clockwise stop. The motor continues but
nothing is happening so I turn it off. The levelling seems to work but I am
wondering if the finding north feature doesn't.

Any suggestions? Anyone come across this before? I am in the southern
hemisphere but from what I can gather, that shouldn't matter. None of the
websites seems to mention this problem, and the Meade consumer support part
of their website doesn't work.

Just an "off the cuff" thought, could it be to do with the location
settings?
If the telescope (Handbox) thinks it is in northern hemisphere perhaps...
