I have an old color TV, MGA (Mitsubishi Electric) model # CS-1346R, I
think it is from about 1990. It has worked perfectly for me for all
these years. Now I have it hooked up to aa DVD player with all sorts of
adapter cords and this has been working for me for a couple of years. A
few days ago, after watching some DVDs, something is amiss. Now I can
turn the TV on/off and adjust the volume using either the controls on
the TV or the remote. But I cannot switch channels via the remote or
the controls on the TV. There is a button on the TV to switch between
TV/Cable/HRC, this is usually the culprit in matters like this, it
corresponds to the display button the remote. When I press the display
button, it says EXT on the screen, this is not mentioned anywhere in the
manual. I haven’t a clue what it means. The one channel it’s on (3 for
using the DVD player) comes in great. There seems to be some sort of
programming malfunction.

Any ideas about how I can fix this?

Thank you,

Jules

My guess would be that it is "external", probably meaning the TV is
listening to RCA jack input or something similar. Since it's direct
audio/video signals it doesn't make sense to change channels.

Look in the menus for something like "source", "input", "antenna", "tuner"
or something like that. Have a notepad and write down what you change...

I've seen some TV's that if anything is plugged in to the RCA jacks they
sense it and switch to extenal mode automatically. Try unhooking anything
plugged in but the cable/antenna.
