Oh, they format their HD's for the weirdest reasons.

L: "I coudn't find the icon for MS Word anymore, so I formatted the

Okay:

A week doesn't go by that we don't get at least 2-3 calls from fscking
(L)users who for one strange reason or another are compelled to
perform this act.

- Installed a new sound card. It didn't work. Took it out. The
old one didn't work. Reformatted HD.

- Your S/W didn't work. Reformatted H/D.

Top it? I doubt it. But I think I will refer it to our dept. for
incorporation into troublshooting techniques. We have often discussed
the idea of recommending H/D reformatting as a LART Object lesson #1!

Very good point, but still you got to admit that, from time to time,
it's amusing to hear _why_ people format their harddrives.

Hmmm. How about...
" I got this email, said PENPALL GREETINGS. Now, I didn't want no stinkin'
virus, so I formatted my harddrive..."

And before you ask, no I haven't had this call.

Yeah, right.

I had a few too many calls to believe that.

What they DO is format it, THEN put back everything
they had before, repeating the SAME STUPID MISTAKES
that they did before, only now they've formatted it
so they think it's CLEAN and so the PROBLEM has to
be your stupid broken software and billgates is the
antichrist and you're the antichrist and Imgoingto

At least they have some reason to think it's "clean". There was a caller a
few days ago who had a MS tech walk him through reinstalling 95... as in
just running the setup again. And he wonders why his connectoid isn't
working. Well it isn't going to when the components are on the hard disk,
but it's a virgin registry--opened the DUN properties of the connection
and no section at all for allowed protocols, just the Ok & Cancel buttons.

All I can say is that you must be doing either organizational, OEM, or
shop tech support and not ISP tech support. I recognized this call
right-away. It does happen. We get them too.
