Note however, you did not address the question. The fact is, many blacks to
scream racism at the drop of a hat. It's a tool to stifle discussion, much
like screaming sexism or any other kind of ism. Blacks have been pawns to
both the right and left since the carpet baggers started using them to provide
a power base. The right wing saw them as little more than animals, and the
left saw them as children who needed saving. The left has used blacks as
cannon foder to their political/power aspirations for so long, that the idea
that should be responsible for their own lives would be political suicide.
A group which defines itself as the champion of the oppressed, must insure
that it has a steady supply of oppressed to "represent". When a group of
people are told over and over that they are not reponsible for their lot in
life, and that only by electing those who will "give" them empowerment
by taking it away from others (white males), and when that group finds
that the collective guilt of the left allow them to use terms like "racist"
and racial set asides, quota systems and other race specific "remedys",
are you supprised when they believe it to be true. If you are told
enough times that the world owes you a living, it's really easy to
buy into it, even if the end result means perpetual bondage, just
to different masters.
As long as blacks see themselves as part of a "group" rather than as
individuals, as long as they allow those self proclaimed "leaders"
to define what being black is, to allow themselves to be typecast
and thus controlled, they will never be free. This, regretabbly
fits into the political agenda of both the progressive left and
the religious right. Sadly, also, those blacks who don't
accept the definition of the left, are seen as sellouts, and as
not being "black" by those who refuse to accept individual
responsibility for their lives.

already used this same one on me in private e-mail after I flamed the
fuckwit for posting to the wrong newsgroup. Funny thing is he's still
posting here. Some morons never learn.
Obtasteless: Grogan of the morning was a rather annoying sort. It seemed
to be without end at the time (I was running late), and I even ended up
flushing during the ongoing process. On completetion analysis revealed
what looked like a bowl full of baby snakes all curled together and
intertwined. Reminds me of that Zappa song.

That's what you get for wasting four years of college at frat parties and
beer-fests. Had you paid attention in english class, for instance, you might
have learned that the present perfect requires a past participle to accompany
the helping verb (i.e. "have gone" not "have went.")
If what you wanted was an assurance that you'd find a job when you graduated
then you should have become an engineer. Instead you've wasted four years
gaining non-skills (at least that's what I gather since you seem to feel
that a company could just as easily replace you with someone who hasn't had
any college education at all.) Had you studied Comp. Sci. for instance,
a company couldn't simply hire a minority with no college education
in your stead. But nooooo its so much easier to major in history, or
rhetoric, or spanish or whatever the "gut" major happens to be at your
school.
Don't get me wrong. The liberal arts are a fine way to go. I majored in
philosophy, for instance. But if you're going to make a go of it in
the liberal arts then you've got to have a little bit of talent and be
willing to put in the effort and the hours to show that you were in it for
more than just four years of cheap beer and a diploma.
Seriously, all this white bitching and moaning jut pisses me off. If you
are white and can't get hired its because you're bottom of the barrel
among white applicants. With all the advantages you enjoy as a white man,
that's pretty lame. Perhaps you should have worked just a little bit harder.
Perhaps you should have studied more and partied less. But in any case stop
your belly-aching.

Obtasteless: Ever have a phantom roadkill? You know the kind where
you're damn sure that you hit something, but there is no trace
whatsoever. I keep having this problem with small birds. They seem to
cluster on the streets around here in packs of three. I can usually
manage a good head of steam and get the car on top of them before they
can properly react. I find that two out of three make the needed rate of
climb and one doesn't appear. This usually make me feel that I must have
either mashed the critter or stuck it to my car. Problem is when I
check. The rear-view mirror shows nothing, and they're no little birdie
chunks anywhere on my car. What the hell is going on anyway?

Actually, there's a little more to this guy's story than he probably knows.
I know of at least two cases, one from personal experience and one from a lady
who worked in another company, of white applicants being lied to about why they
didn't get the job.
The lady found out about it when a friend complained to her that her company
turned him down for a job because they needed to use the slot to hire a
minority worker. She knew for a fact that the company hadn't hired ANYBODY
in over a year, so she asked a friend of hers who had done the interview what
was going on. The guy told her that the company isn't hiring, but that he
and a few of the other Personnel people felt that telling applicants that they
weren't hiring would make them wonder why they were being interviewed, and
telling them that they just weren't good enough would hurt their feelings and
confidence, so instead they were just telling everybody that they didn't get
the job because they weren't a minority. She asked what they told minority
applicants, and he said that they were just told they didn't get the job, with
no explanation.
This didn't suprise me, because I'd been told after an interview pretty much
the same thing, and then a good friend who was black and equally qualified came
back from meeting the SAME GUY at the same company, and told me that he
was told there was a hiring freeze, and they just wanted to keep applicants on
file if hiring resumed.
I also knew a guy who told me that he was told he lost the job because of
minority quotas, and from my knowledge of his skills and presentation I was
astonished that anyone would have even considered him for that position. Only
later, after these other two incidents, did I understand that he never was
really considered. I don't know how widespread this is, but I suspect it's not
at all rare.
So I finally understood the answer to one of the biggest mysteries in modern
America: How come so many whites claim to lose their jobs to minority hiring,
while even a cursory glance at most workplaces finds very few blacks in any
good positions?

When a member of NALHM (the National Association of Lazy Hiring Managers)
says "we'd like to hire you, but we have a quota to meet and you're the
wrong race" what he really means is usually:
1) "You're not qualified to do the job, but I don't have the courage to
come out and say it." or
2) "You strike me as someone who's competent and independent enough that
you aren't going to be willing to check your brains at the door and kiss
my ass all the time, and people like you give me the creeps because one
of you might replace me." or
3) "We'd rather hire someone with less experience because he's going to
be cheaper in the short run, and in the long run we're all dead."
Seriously, equality of opportunity means more-qualified white applicants
are occasionally going to be passed over in favor of less-qualified black
applicants, rather than only in favor of less-qualified white applicants
(the latter having been an everyday occurrence since the start of the
Industrial Revolution, if not earlier).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if they say to you that they had a
racial quota to fulfil, they have committed a crime in that it's
illegal to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin,
etc. If they say that they hired you due to race, you can nail them
to the wall AND get them to pay you damages plus all the
court/attorney fees.
From their perspective, if they say it's due to race, it's definitely
due to race, because it's much easier (and completely legal) to say to
a person that he's not qualified. It's much, much more difficult (and
completely illegal) to say that it was due to race. I have
experienced this first-hand, but in my case I was hired for the
position based on my qualifications, and the personnel people had to
DRAFT A LETTER TO THE HOME OFFICE STATING THE REASONS THEY HIRED A
WHITE MALE RATHER THAN A MINORITY AND/OR WOMAN. These are the exact
words of the personnel representative.
(It's probably because they do federal contract work, but that
shouldn't matter...)

to someone's posted opinion, by using the method of posting a followup, the
process is not the same as selecting a bunch of newsgroups to post to and then
doing so. The previous asshole didn't seem to understand that distinction
any better than you do, but it's a fact.
