AND

They went to yesterdays movies tomorrow,
Got a front seat at the back,
Fell from the floor to the ceiling
and hurt the front part of their back.

I heard the beginning just a little different:
Ladies and gentlemen,
Hoboes and tramps.
Cross-eyed mosquitoes and bowlegged ants.
I come before you to stand behind you,
To tell you something I know nothing about.
It was light in the middle of the night,
when two dead boys came out to fight.

>Back to back they faced one another
>Drew out their swords and shot eachother

A deaf policeman heard the noise,

Came and shot the two dead boys.

>
>Now if you don't believe this tale
>Go ask the blind man, he saw it all..."

"I see" said the blind man to his deaf daughter,
As the man with no legs,
Kicked him out the door that wasn't there!!

"I got a million of 'em"

is there supposed to be some kind of moral to the story, or some deep
meaning, or some code, or something, 'cos I haven't got a clue to the
point of the rhyme

You all forgot the opening lines:

Pull up a chair and sit on the floor
I'll tell you a story I never heard before

***Does anyone know the poem which begins:

*** "one day, in the middle of the night,
*** two dead boys got up to fight..."

One bright morning in the middle of the night,

Two dead boys began to fight,

Back to back they faced each other,

Drew their swords and shot each other,

A deaf policeman heard the noise,

and tried to stop the two dead boys,

and if you don't believe it's true,

Ask the blind man....he saw it too.

Here's how it REALLY goes, so it rhymes AND flows:

One bright day, in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight.
One was blind, the other couldn't see;
They called the Devil to referee.
Back-to-back they faced each other;
Drew their swords and shot each other.

A deaf policeman heard the noise

And came and killed those two dead boys.
If you don't believe this lie is true -
Go ask Blind Willy - he saw it too!

Okay, here it is according to a book I just grabbed:

One bright day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to fight.
Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise; he came and shot those two dead boys.
If you don't believe this lie is true, ask the blind man; he saw it too.

It's a classic poem that's more like:

One bright day in the middle of the night two dead men stood up to
fight. Back-to-back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot
each other. A deaf policeman heard the noise and came to kill those two
dead boys. If you don't believe this lie is true, ask the blind man he

One fine morning in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight

A blind man came to watch fair play
A mute man came to shout "HORRAY"
A deaf policeman heard this noise

He lived on a corner in he middle of a block

Ladies and gentleman skinny and scout
I'll tell you a tale I know nothing about
The admission is free so pay at the door
Now pull out a chair and sit on the floor

On one bright day in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other

The blind man came to see fair play
The mute man came to shout hooray
The deaf policeman heard the noise
And came to stop those two dead boys

He lived on the corner in the middle of the block
In a two story house on a vacant lot
A man with no legs came walking by
And kicked the lawman in his thigh

He crashed through a wall without making a sound
Into a dry creek bed and suddenly drowned
A long black hearse came to cart him away
But he ran for his life and is still gone today

I watched from the corner of the table
The only eyewitness to facts of my fable
If you doubt my lies are true
Just ask the blind man, he saw it too
