i just looked at the 2 FAQ files for <de.soc.kultur.japan>.
they are very nice.

i wonder if there are similar files in Spanish.

i studied German in high school and college for 4 years total.
i also sang German songs in a college glee club.

is this a common expression?
if so, would you call it a proverb?

comment on my translations into English:

literally: "What is not is still to be done."
or "What is not is still to be accomplished."

meaning: "You're lucky that you haven't done
it yet, because you can still do it."

like listening to Bach or Beatles for the
first time.

do we have expressions/proverbs like this in English
and Japanese?

perhaps it's like "Better later than never."

i suppose this is like the English "Regards," ?

Re: "Tanaka-san"

Please do not call me "Tanaka-san" in English speech or text.
White Americans (e.g., comedians, bigots, smart alecs) often use
the "-san" ending to make fun of the Japanese and Japanese Americans.

Mr, Tanaka,
You are indeed a very nice guy.
Can we be friends?
Are you living in Japan or US?
TAn.

re: the <de.soc.kultur.japan> newsgroup
--------------------------------------------------------------------

from looking at the topics discussed in the <de.soc.kultur.japan>
newsgroup and the 2 FAQ files for newsgroup,
it seems pretty clear that German-speaking people don't have
the kind of prejudice against the Japanese that is common
among white Americans.

some samples are attached below. note that they all like to
use "-san" (or "-chan").
