i might rephrase Hauke Reddmann's "numerical pun" in this
way as a riddle:

How is J.S. Bach -- when written as BAC(H) -- like
4 Jumbo Jets?

what's a fan-out? are you saying that topics in a thread
tend to digress a lot?

IUB in the news: Men listen with only half of the brain.

I heard this on the radio a few days ago.
I think Jay Leno mentioned it last night.

"Go Hoosiers!"

Subject: Study: Men Listen With Half of Brain
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20001128/sc/brain_listening_2.html

CHICAGO (AP) - Score one for exasperated women: New research
suggests men really do listen with just half their brains.

In a study of 20 men and 20 women, brain scans showed that
men when listening mostly used the left sides of their
brains, the region long associated with understanding
language. Women in the study, however, used both sides.

Other studies have suggested that women ``can handle
listening to two conversations at once,'' said Dr. Joseph
T. Lurito, an assistant radiology professor at Indiana
University School of Medicine. ``One of the reasons may be
that they have more brain devoted to it.''

I distinctly remember listening to the CBC's As It Happens interview
where the researchers said they read the text *backwards*. This was
not mentioned in the above news report. Perhaps this should be in
the "dumbing down" thread? Anyone else hear that interview?
