Dyslexia Stone Soup
This is an attempt to create a format where NYC schools and communities
can share frustrations and inspirations in their attempts to create
strategies addressing dyslexia.

Dyslexia...@webtv.net On November 6th, 2001 thirty-five NYC educators participated in a all
day informal conference/experiment entitled: Dyslexia: Creating a
Home/School/Community Strategy Participants 'screened and critiqued'
videos designed to aid parents and teachers in helping the dyslexic
student.
The videos addressed:
A) Defining Dyslexia
B) Testing and Teaching Dyslexic Students
C) Class Room Accommodations for Dyslexic Students Participants were
exposed to suggestions on how to accommodate a classroom for the
Dyslexic student.
Explored how to assist class teachers' need to have an understanding of
the problems that the dyslexic child may have within the classroom
situation.
Explored how to assist the students' parents in aiding their children.
Participants were invited to create and share IEP models/materials with
each other (via this website) after the conference. These would be
modified for the individual student and school milieu. Discussions
regarding addressing this issue in the Home/School/Communitycontext.
Discussions regarding developing a Home/School/Community partnership in
addressing the issue of collectively aiding the dyslexic student. All
participants received a folder of relevant articles,resources and
handouts for distribution to schools' parents and fellow teachers
Participants were invited to keep in contact with eachother through a
resulting cyber/internet community connecting fellow NYC educators,
parents and community workers.
