Just came back from two blissful weeks of Scottish Holiday Recovery.

And I came back with some new toys, to wit: A new (mock) broadsword, a
Leatherman Wave (I've bought two of these damn things for other people
in the past and never quite got around to getting one for myself) and
rather a lot of whisky. Namely:

Caol Ila 18yrs
(<http://www.whiskymag.com/whisky/brand/caol_ila/whisky858.html>)

Lagavulin Double Matured (<http://whisky.vangeest.nl/bottle.php?id=106>)

Edradour Cask Strength 70cl (2 of these)
(<https://www.lfw.co.uk/acatalog/Stock_Lists_Edradour_71.html> - it's
the OB Decanter one)

Edradour Cask Strength Sauternes Finish 50cl (also 2) (same link as
above - it's the yellowish box)

Mortlach
(<http://www.whiskymag.com/whisky/brand/mortlach/whisky1436.html>)

Glenfiddich 21 yr old Cuban finish...lovelylovelylovely
(<http://www.whiskymerchants.sageweb.co.uk/speyside,glen,single,malt,sco
tch,whisky.htm>)

Bowmore Legend (just the normal - never quite got around to getting a
Bowmore Darkest)

also tried a made-for-Tesco 12yr single which was surprisingly good and
a Bruichladdich which, while quite nice, wasn't to my tastes. Had a sort
of honey overtone.

Took a tour of the Edradour distillery itself and it's a lovely wee
place. The tour is free and they give you a free dram as well (of the
standard 10yr old - a tad harsh to my tastes). The stills (and the
distillery itself) are the smallest in Scotland and if they were any
smaller they'd be classed 'portable' and hence illegal. The tour was
fun, albeit rather short. Given that you can walk from one end of the
place to the other in about 15 seconds that's not too surprising and the
tour guide was amusing and informative ('Dinnae stick yer heed in theer
or yeel pass oot afta 5 seconds.')

Best one out of the lot? Hard to say, actually. The Glenfiddich is
certainly a damn nice dram but I'm very attached to the Edradour Cask
Strengths...

So. Back home again and, frankly, not looking forward to Monday.

Still - at least I have something to stab the buggers with, eh?

_Bastard!_ I _must_ get round to acquiring a bottle of Cuban Reserve.

(And another bottle of Elmer T. Lee, now that I think of it.

I must have another look at Whisky Live when it comes around.

(Can't remember trying the Edradour last time.)

It's bloody nice - very smooth and rounded, no iodine overtone like you
get with, say, Lagavulin. So much so that 2/3rds of the bottle has been
consumed already...

It -can- be tricky to get hold off outside of Scotland. Not impossible
but you'll almost certainly have to order it. Put it this way: Edradour
produce 700ish casks a year - that's what most distillers produce in a
day. At a guess, a third of that is for domestic (ie Scottish)
consumption, a third goes to The Rest Of Blighty and the final third is
for The Unwashed Heathen Hoardes. I can't back those numbers up but they
feel about right.

I'd try the Royal Mile Whisky site. I'd try it myself but it's playing
up at the moment.

Things have never been the same since my arch enemy, due to a slight
clerical error, put a price on my shed.

And -just- to rub it in a wee bit, there's now a picture of most of that
little lot on the link below.

Picture of sword will follow when it's up on the wall, which might be a
week or two yet.

Hmmm, yes, well...

The perils of window shopping for Christmas presents:

I went to London yesterday (first Thursday of the month pubmeet), and
wandered down Tottenham Court Road as usual. Buck & Ryan lightened
my wallet (due to a special offer on Maglites and stuff), then I made
the mistake of wandering into the Soho Wine Supply[1] to see what the
prices were like for various presents. *BIG MISTAKE!* They'd got the
21yr old Glenfiddich Havana Reserve on the shelf at 59 GBP. (It's 72
plus shipping on the Intaweb.) If you hear gunfire, the bank have
caught up with me.

Chris.

very good prices. They frequently beat Oddbins and the supermarkets
