Folks,

Would anyone have a recommended supplier for replacement belts
for an RX02? The dec part number was 12-14005-00. Or, is there a way
to make one that will work ok?

I recently got an RX02, but the belt was missing on one of the
drives. Thanks,

Lou

Folks,

Since selling one belt to a hobbyist is something dec parts
dealers don't seem to want to do, I have deceided to find an alternate
source for the RX02 belt. My unit had a belt on one drive that I could
measure. It has a rectangular cross-section 0.180" x 0.032" as
measured by my cheapo calipers. The pulley diameters and spacing
worked out to an inside belt length of 23.28". I see that in the PRB
Line catalog (which I remembered from my teenage days of VCR repair)
that there is a belt 0.185" x 0.030" x 23.3" inside circumference -
this seems too close to my numbers to be coincidence! PRB part number
FRX23.6 . We will give it a try and report back.

Folks,

For the record, I got a PRB Line FRX22.4 belt to work. This is a
common belt for certain Pioneer and Technics record players. It's an
all rubber belt (unlike the nylon reinforced orignial), so it jumps a
bit when the spindle is placed under the sudden load of spinning the
disk up when the latch is closed. The load of a head load operation
does not appear to adversely affect the disk speed so as to cause
trouble. I think we have a winner.
