Peter was the director of the LCG Software Group when I worked at DEC. He left after
a time to be a prime mover in the VAX realm. In those days, he sported a shirt, tie,
and ponytail . . . he used to have neat parties, too.
One of the things I remember Peter accomplishing was the DIRECT program, which could
do so many nifty things compared to what PIP used to do. He was always in back of significant
technical innovations in the details of the software, never bound by tradition. I've never
seen an improvement suggested or implemented by Peter that wasn't right on. I've
always thought that he was a great technical leader. He always had a good idea or suggestion
if you came to him with a quandary.
We've lost two great TOPS people in a month - this has got to stop.

A memorial service will be held at the Harvard Unitarian Church,
Harvard Common, Harvard, MA on Sunday April 2 at 4 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Peter F.
Conklin Memorial Education Trust Fund, c/o Shawmut Bank, Acton, MA for
the education of Cambodian-Americans.
His survivors include his parents, H. Stewart and Louise (Fischer)
Conklin of Coral Gables FL, his wife Donna (Bennert) Conklin of
Harvard, his adopted children Sambath and his wife Sophea Soum of
Harvard and Thear Oeur of Fitchburg, a brother James and his wife
Kathryn Conklin of Palo Alto CA, and a granddaughter Kimberly Soum of
Harvard.
