I have upgraded to windows 98. I formatted my hard drive and did a clean
install. I have loaded my sound card drivers. Everything seems to be
working fine except when I go to dos and try to access my cdrom or zip drive
I get a invalid drive specification error. Can someone tell me what I need
to do? Thanks in advance.

Collom,
If you know of someone who has win98 pre-installed from Packard Bell on
their system, you can copy the file DosMODE.exe and place the statement to
it in the autoexec, and it will load the sound and CD ROM drivers for your
system. If not, you'll need to download the drivers for whatever sound card
you have, and can probably get away with the universal driver from OAK which
runs about 95% of the CD ROM drives now. Hope this helps.

Have you got a bootdisk of win98? This will access the cdrom drive.
After that you could install win98 from cdrom.
Partition the hard disk with the dos program fdisk first, though.

Have a great day

get somewhere file MTMCDAI.SYS

this works with ALL cd-rom drivers.
then add to config.sys:

DEVICE=C:\MTMCDAI.SYS /D:CD001

and to AUTOEXEC.BAT

C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:CD001 /L:D

hope this works..
